This is confirmed by a review of studies on sexual motivations, called Sexuality and Culture, according to which people today have many more reasons to get involved in sexual activity than in past times. There are specialists who believe that sexual desire really has to do with the very fact of being human, since people would be "programmed" to have sex, just as we are to eat it. Another theory, also linked to the idea of evolution, states that sexual desire has to do with a biological need and that it is necessary to preserve the species. The more cultural approaches, on the other hand, focus on the individual aspects that motivate people to have sex or not. For example, psychologists at the University of Texas at Austin asked more than college students about their sexual attitudes and experiences. And they divided the answers into four main groups: For physical reasons such as pleasure, stress reduction, exercise, sexual curiosity or attraction to the other person. For accomplishing some goal, such as having children, becoming more popular or even seeking revenge. For emotional issues, such as love, commitment or gratitude. For issues that have to do with personality, for example to improve self-esteem, prevent him or her partner from seeking sex elsewhere or feel pressured to have sex.
