I like PVE shooters, I have something close to 4,000 hours between Borderlands, Killing Floor and Payday games but this game is a disappointment. I don't expect the world from a relatively cheap indie game but what I do expect is good gameplay and it's lacking here. This game has two modes, Survival and Horde. Horde is completely worthless mode where you are given a certain amount of credits for weapons and defences and skill points for abilities, you can't earn anymore and you have to survive for as long as you can. Survival mode is a little better, you get credits for killing enemies and a skill point for every completed wave. The gameplay is fairly simplistic and would have been mildly enjoyable if it wasn't for the following flaws: Melee combat is completely worthless except in the first two waves. There are multiple noobtraps in this game, for example upgrading the melee weapon will simply waste points because zombies will kill a character that has fully maxed survivability in a second on wave 10+. Single shot weapons are severely underpowered even when upgraded. The starting weapon is particularly worthless. Shopping for items is unnecessarily arduous, you have to jog over to an area that opens during a wave recess. I don't understand why you can't shop with an interface where you stand. Enemies are extremely bulletspongy, even on earlier waves. It takes a mag of the SMG to kill just 3 regular zombies. Enemy HP and damage escalate very quickly so you can't strategise, things like number of bullets to headshot an enemy like you can in Killing Floor. There are no persistent unlocks, you die, you have to start from the very beginning boring waves with nothing to show for it. Another major issue with the game is that it feels like the devs want you to play a very specific way in terms of build and upgrade order. If you play it that way, you will get relatively far but if you deviate in any way, you will fail quickly. This makes every game feel very samey since the balance is so poor that more than half of weapons on display constitute an objectively bad choice and you are stuck with the same two or three guns every run. Overall, this game feels severely underbaked and the problem is that it is unlikely to get any better since the forums are very quiet and the last time devs responded to anything way in May.. It's 2k18 and people still make games where you can't move and hit at the same time. rings a bell.. At a really barebones level the game is fun but there's alot of improvements that could be made. Lock on or targetting system - especially for melee but for the guns too Weaker enemies for the beginning Actual progression system - like reaching a certain round unlocks this costume or clothing. Or weapon skin Expanding the map - start the first 5 rounds at the beggining area then moving to an upper or lower level and so on As of right now its fun for a few minutes and has potential. I just hope the creators take feedback and improve upon it.. Pretty damn fun for the price.. Thus far the controls need work. Targeting enemies is clunky and you must forfeit getting strikes against the enemy in favor of escaping and keeping distance. Nothing is wrong with that, however, it feels very clunky in its implementation so far. Lots of time is spent running just to wait for an opportunity to attack without getting killed, instead of dealing damage. Starting stamina burn rate seems high as it requires lots of energy only to get a couple of hits or dodge. Not fun. Will keep playing to see if progress is made, but cannot reccomend at this time.. Even at version 0.404 this game is worth the $10. Developement could completely stop and you would still have a pretty good Hord mode. I rarely purchase Early Acess games due to how many times I've been burned, but in this case you get a decently fleshed out game, with good graphics, and fun gameplay right off the bat. As for the game, it's an interesting hybrid of Horde mode, survival horror, and strategy. You fight waves of zombies, and between every wave you have a chance to upgrade your character, buy ammo, weapons, or upgrade said weapons. You can also place traps and turrets to help take out the zombies. All of which cost money you make by completing waves. The first few waves are all about making enough money to reload your gun. As you progress you make more money, and are able to expand arsenal. All of these features are already in game, and they've yet to even release Version 1.0. This is how Early Access should be done.
