Loved this game when it first came out and decided to play it again. I had forgotten the major flaws that I disliked over the years...like limited number of saves and the fact that the enemy that gets you most of the time are so small that you can barely see them. It was a matter of dying several times to figure out where they were so you could be ready for them on your next 'rebirth'. Then on to the next RPG and die again, repeat and die until you learn the entire route.
Then it's on to the next map and live, die, repeat again.
Back in the day there were cheat codes and trainers (if you could find one that wasn't filled with malware) that allowed you to set modes like 'god', 'unlimited ammo' etc. which made it possible to play without raising the blood pressure out of frustration.
Even on the easy mode plan to die a lot and replay from that loooong last (limited) save you sparingly made. Which usually means going through long, long, drives (where you man a .50 cal) and someone else in the convoy winds getting destroyed or you hit one too many civilians...and it's back to last save as 'mission failed'.
My fav is to snipe from afar with the .50 cal portable and flank the enemy (if you can) The draw back...if you stray too far you get "Get back on the mission" warning and you'd better do it QUICK! Or it's back to tha last save...
There are some spots in the game where you don't get the warning and it just goes back to the last save with a huge "Mission failed".
I loved this game when I had a mod/trainer that let you quick save as much as you wanted which made a somewhat frustrating game enjoyable...as people still like to go back and play old games, it's a shame no one has removed the limited quick saves and put it up in the Steam Workshop.
It seems as I get older, my problems with vision and coordination lessen...looks like this game was just wasted money and fond memories of a time when I enjoyed this game...
Too bad the workshop community passed over this game to mod. Seriously other than the obvious flaws (and my problems) this was a good game.. Loved that game when I was young and still loved it playing it through a lot of years later.
It's simply a classic. gotta love this game! 10/10 would like to see a remaster of it. Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is the 5th Delta Force, if you count Task Force Dagger as it's own game, of course. And it's the one that took a more radical change to series, being more like the first COD. Only instead of being generic WW2 shooter, it's a generic near-modern one. This time the game takes place in Somalia in 1993. Yep, it was when America once again went too far with military involvement. The country was in civil war between clans and UN was trying to deliver food but was getting robbed, so American forces were supposed to guard them, until they got♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥off and decided to go after one of the clans, to eliminate the leader. Until the 3th October in 1993 happened where their operation went quite wrong and there were heavy casualities on both sides. Read it on Wiki, it reads like an action movie. And indeed, there were books and a war movie, Black Hawk Down. Delta Force takes a piece of this pie too, with liberties taken. Some fictional missions before and 3th October operation for the last third of the game.
Protip: There is a 'secret' final mission that becomes available after credits
None the less, yea, it's like the first COD. You can now lean around, you can take more bullets than usual, there are rare ammo and health kits around, actually market on a map. The open spaces are only at the beggining of a campaign and it's more linear but it's more cinematic, with scripts, teammates always being around, awesome music changing accordingly and being more linear. Oh, and on-rail shooting sections. But I will take it over monotomy of originals. Flashbang grenades and smoke ones, albeit I have found no good use for the latter.
And no, I don't think that they deliver near same drama as the movie or the book, despite being cinematic. Because it was 2003 cinematic. Not personal at all.
But for the most parts, yea, the distances are much closer so it's not really Delta Force much. Still was pseudo-tactical, still is tho.
Yea, AI is still a bit dumb but much much less dumb than used to be. Plus, it makes much more sense, as enemies are militia with inferior equipment. They are animated accordingly too. Until final missions when you sometimes see them accurately shoot at you while casually walking toward you with gun at hip. Then again, difficulty is all over the place. Mostly it's easy until you relax and encounter a magical situation where some enemy is suddenly able to shoot straight. Weird. And AI is too dumb for teammates, the trained SpecOps. The way that they handle enemies upclose is just awkward. You can give them some orders and they follow you by default, but those orders are just holding position, holding fire and throwing grenades where you point, kinda pointless for such action game. Oh, and can set spacing, but they are too dumb. And there are few rare scripted parts where you can point at entrance of a room, with red arrow there, and tell them to "takedown" where they will attempt to flashbang and enter the room. It goes bad. Not as bad as in Rainbow Six: Raven Shield or Lockdown, but pretty awful. Once upon a time they have managed to throw flashbang on a wrong floor.
And yea, there are civilians. Interestingly, militia doesn't look too different from some civilians at first, so that's one begginner challenge. I like how civilians don't react too friendly, some throw rocks at you. I think that those rocks actually hurt a tiny amount.
Also, you get limited amount of saves per mission. Thankfully, they put in just the right amount so a smart player will enjoy such challenge.
But eh. I will take it. It's generic and drab but at least it's the first Delta Force game I've enjoyed from beggining to end.. when i play this game when i was 15 and it was fun. i played dfbhd back in 2009-2010, this is the best game out their with so much history, found it here on steam it feels so good to be back on it once again, for those who dont know this game, their is a movie out you should see , "black hawk down" example of this game is a little like battlefield and ARMA, dfbhd was also game of the year in 2004. if you dont believe me that this game is so good, trust me buy it and see the servers. the servers are still running hott even in 2016, good amount of people still on, ever since 2003, now thats a sign of a good game. dfbhd has thousands of maps, in novalogic HQ you can download some of them aswell. why thousands of maps? because this game comes with a easy to use map editer where you can also place your own bot players, make your own mission or try your own map in the mutiplayer. Delta Force Gave me many good memorys i thank god i found it agian, make your own good memorys today and buy this game.. Steam told to me that none have been playing this game recently, so I ended up at this box where you can write.. Interesting.
Still great game if you have interest of FPS history or nostalgic tripping for those who have played these in the past.. DFBHD was the top game back in the day. Servers were always full.
Visited from time to time throughout the years and there seems to be up to 10 dedicated servers consistently. This game just wont die!
So, I finally decided to start a new squad and contact some old teammates, along with some new people who haven't played before. Hoping for a revival.
While playing this game, you cant expect top graphics like you see in today's modern games. However, you can expect smooth gameplay, making new friends and having a great time. You can also expect a military simulator game where you have to adjust your scope while sniping. Custom made maps are fairly easy to learn and build.
Joining a squad (and there are a few out there) you can expect to make some good friends, practice games and challenging other squads.
So, if anyone is looking for something new or for a revival, I would highly recommend Deltaforce Blackhawk down. I believe you wont be disappointed, and you cant beat the price.
Our new clan is: Patriot Snipers. Dedicated server is up.
If interested contact me... Played this game back when it first came out, used to hang out in the Abattoir server. Had a nostalgia overdose when playing the game albeit through rose tinted glasses. The graphics haven't held up well compared to current gen but it's still a great game to play online with and well worth buying when on sale.
