this is actually not a bad hidden object and puzzle game but it needs some fixes and improvements. clue system not working the way \u0131t's supposed to be, sometimes clicking not working hidden objects and there is no map. cartoony graphics looks great and story is not bad one but expert mode very confusing because of these problems. i suggest to you play only custom mode.. I beat this game in a 3.2 hourss (possibly less if I could figure out what they wanted me to do next). The puzzles a mild brain teasers and they story seems sparcely put together. Some of the hunting around for items is a little disconnected. Not sure if I can honestly recommend this game, I am not really certain I understand why Blackjack was♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥off, just knew he was killing the whole town and thats it.....I just felt more could be put into the story and in the puzzles. Graphics are on the line of similar hunt and pecks, so its got that going for it. The searchables were a little broken and I dare someone to truly try to play this game without using a hint, let alone find the gate in the back of the graveyard.

I am willing to change my view if the designers decide to revisit this game and give it more of a story and a little more understanding of what need to happen.
. This is definitely not one of the better games I've played. The story was weak (a psychic detective that can't tell the diff between living and dead people) and the mini-puzzles were pointless. There was absolutely no challenge in the repeated "complete the jigsaw puzzle" items. The animation is non-existent and there is no way to skip some of the cut-scenes. Unless you catch it on sale for under $1 like I did, give this one a miss.. Hard Dry Camel flomp. I bought this game in a bundle with two others for just over $8.00. It took me about 3 hours to finish.
Good for someone between the ages of 13-16. The only annoying thing was sometimes you would click on an item in the find it puzzles, but you would have to click kinda off the object to trigger it. It wasn't accurate, making you think that what you were clicking on wasn't what you needed to find, and then you would search for another 5 mintues, and then go back to the original item thinking "this HAS to be it" and then click a million times out of frustration, and boom, it would be the item, you just had to click beside it.
But other then that I enjoyed the game and the story.. It's a very raw game. Story is nice although themes are too repetative (ghost - no ghost).
No map, so you have to go back an forth all the time with no shortcuts.
Graphics are ok. Very minimal.
Hidden object scenes are easy, but a bit frustrating as the game doesn't always recognise the click placing.
Puzzle games, just boring with no challenge or interest.

Hope other / next games from the developer are better.. Before I get too far into a review, this game is a perfect example of why we should have a neutral option for recommendations. I more or less enjoyed it, but it has plenty of drawbacks that some people might consider deal breakers. It wasnt bad, but it wasnt great either. If it sounds interesting, grab it on a discount, but I wouldnt pay full price.

The game is very buggy. For me, nothing was voiced until I clicked the characters a second time, and then the voice audio would ignore all volume settings. Not game breaking, but very annoying. Clicking objects in the puzzles wasnt an exact science either. You had to click them just right to get it to register that you found the item, and more than once I sat there spam clicking an object until the game registered that I found it.

Story wasnt too bad, but it was pretty predictable. I wont spoil it, but I figured out the "twist" pretty early on. Was a bit hard for me to feel involved in the story, but it was interesting enough for me to want to finish the game and see the ending.

Puzzles were pretty easy and repeated a couple times.

In the end, the game is a very basic hidden object game with its fair share of bugs. It isnt terrible, but it certainly isnt that great. It was a nice, short, relaxing playthrough though. Decent grab if you catch it on discount or find it in a bundle.. This isn't a terrible game, though it did irritate me a couple of times across the 3+ hours I spent with it - once again I wish there was a "whatever" or "neutral" choice, rather than just thumbs up or down. Deadwood is simple and direct, without the customary frills of Hidden Object Games right now - no map, no penalty for loose clicking, no achievements; just a very basic game and a hint button that seems intended to be pressed freely, and often. Also no collectibles, so I'm not sure in what way this is a Collector's Edition. \/shrugs

What others say is true: some of the objects are exceptionally hard to click on - there's one pair of scissors that led me in particular on a merry chase, more than once too, and an errant hourglass and a few other objects were also quite hard to get. And there's a lot of go-try-it-again play, going back to search in locations already visited. As the cursor doesn't spontaneously indicate active areas, this involves a lot of random clicking. Overall it's a quick and tidy experience, in which I rarely felt I had enough information to avoid leaning on hints for the next step forward. I put this on top of there why? Just because? Well, whatever. Sound was a bit muddled, but that may have been my aging box.

There's some good variety in the approach to hidden object scenes: sometimes outlines, sometimes descriptions, and other times just a dozen or so objects of a type. The assets themselves are used more than once, without regard to context, so there are ballet slippers in the crypt and also in the library (just an example, I don't recall if the slippers are in those actual locations). That always bugs me some. Deadwood may work best as a beginner's game for a precocious kid to play; as a HOG fan, I found it a little bland and arbitrary.. While the story of this game is ok, as are the graphics I can´t recommend it for a number of reasons:

1) The hitboxes in the hidden object puzzles are simply bad

2) The hidden object puzzles themselves vary from decent to downright awful, an example of the latter would be finding 12 rolls of ducttape pasted onto a previous hidden object scene

3) The german translation is simply unfit for purpose as it is complete gibberish at times, and as there is no way i could find to turn the game pack to english even though my steam client is set to english it made the game almost unplayable,

In short, there are many, many better hidden object games out there, don´t buy this one.

And for my countrymen the most important part again in german:

Übersetzung ist furchtbar, daher sind oftmals nichtmal die Hilfe Texte zu verstehen und das macht das Spiel beinahe unspielbar.

(and just in case the english speakers among you wonder here is a translation of that german sentence)

Translation is awful, because of this even the help text is impossible to understant at times, this makes the game almost unplayable.. Good little mix of adventure, puzzle and hidden object. For the 39p I paid on offer it was well worth every penny, but the only fault I'd have with it is complete lack of replayability as the objects to find in each minigame don't change each time you restart... but for 39p it was a steal!
