About This Game

InCell is an action/racing game with a bit of strategy and science thrown into the mix in a rare and highly unusual microworld of the carefully recreated human cell. This is the right project to start your acquaintance with VR or receive new VR impressions. The game is focused on Virtual Reality but you can play just fine without a set.

Ready steady go!

Thanks to all robot-gods out there we will not take this journey alone -  our humble (with a tiny control-everyone mania) assistant is waiting for us (she is so sweet, isn’t she?). The Most Excellent Assistant Zero-Seven (she said that humans may refer to her simply as ‘Your Highness’). So the player’s task is to impress TMEAR07 with experiment on volunteer to unlock new healing technology for humanity. The problem is she doesn’t believe in that possibility because humans are simple and illogical (and she is genius… as always).

To cure our volunteer Mrs. Jane Smith and impress TMEAR07  players must select the right way through the objects (organelles) to the cell’s nucleus and do their best in innovative radial racings between selected objects. Each object provides unique abilities to improve racing params or to protect cell with different strategies.

How is it going inside the cell?

Getting closer to understanding cell structure and organelles functions (which are similar to the real functionality of the organelles) players will improve their skills and will have a chance to impress completely suspicious The Most Excellent Assistant Zero-Seven (who knows why is she so much aware of the other six Excellent Assistant Robots disassembling…).

One old and wise robot (he is still remember his 386 childhood) said that it’s a bad idea to make this kind of girl-robot sad…

Features

 • Playable with VR (control the movement with your head only, or use keyboard and joystick).
 • Solve the riddle of TMEAR07, find out why doesn’t she believe in the humanity (may be it is just robot’s bad today or some silicon stuff inside your PC makes she sad)?
 • With each new start the cell structure will be generated anew placing the organelles in different locations.
 • This game is a perfect opportunity to learn more about cell microstructure, different organelles and their roles in cell vital activity.
 • Unlock harder difficulties where the true challenge awaits.

This game should probably only be enjoyed through a VR headset.

Before I elaborate on why, let's talk about the game. Difficulty is added to simple gameplay by having a ridiculous time system where in Level 2 and beyond, if you go quite literally anywhere slower than maximum speed, the virus comes faster than you and drains your clock immensely with each stage.

The only way you could win is to either have perfect runs, or barely make it by using the organelles' abilities to slow down the virus. And in Level 2 and beyond, it becomes difficult to make no mistakes, as you need to pay attention to how you've aligned yourself on the route and aim for shooting the protein balls carefully. Those things get destroyed at contact with speed boosts and rows of protein, often making only one ball reach the Great Wall of Obstacle. And if you find yourself in the bad luck of being moderately away from the opening, you can't even turn fast enough to dodge.

Furthermore, protein as a currency in the game isn't really used save for paying for using an organelle's abilities, which sometimes are free anyways. This, along with other game mechanics, makes it a bit like a flash game.

With all of those things, comprehensible only to a player of this game, said, I can now elaborate that it's difficult to enjoy the visuals of this 3D game with such annoying tension in the game. You can't admire the beauty of the organelles and the cell membrane when you have to focus on not dying... Unless you can turn your head quickly enough like how you can enjoy the scenery abruptly when you're driving a car. And that speed is provided not by the mouse, but by a VR headset.

All of this harsh criticism aside, it was still surprising to find a game mechanic and a plot to what seemed like merely an environmental VR preview. It's also great that you can enjoy this game without a VR headset; the graphics, though seemingly a bit dated, are still unique. It's not some 2D circuit either; playing on a 3D cylindrical route is pretty nice. Add the fact that there's actually trading cards in this game, and it makes it a generous gift by Luden.io and Nival to the Steam community. Free money and a unique experience.

However, as you can see, I've played for an hour, with multiple attempts, and still haven't got any trading cards.

If you want to spend some time, come inside and enjoy the scenery in Level 1, which is actually easy and gives you plenty of time to look around (Hold right click for that). If you're the kind of person that doesn't mind, or likes, trying many times trying to get the best score, to pass the level, or simply to get the trading cards, then you should probably play this game.

I'm giving no recommendation because the game mechanics are a bit unsophisticated; that for the same price (i.e. free), you can play other games that are better. But there's more to Incell VR than just the game, so if you can enjoy the other aspects, it's probably a game for you. Furthermore, at the end of the day, it's free, so there's not really anything to legitimately complain about.

Also, take note that I played this without a VR headset. Reviews coming from those playing with one state that the game's 3D effects look great. I'll trust those guys.. Tried in VR (Vive).
Made me very sick, very quickly.
(I get easily sick in the real world, too, but never in the room-scale Vive experiences). My second time reviewing (looks like I did not save the previous attempt). I love educational games. And this one is not only educational it is stunningly beautiful too. Very immersive even if you just pllays it on a PC/laptop without the VR.. It's short, simple and fun. Racing game in VR. It's cool! I enjoyed it for the price. FREE!. Best rollercoaster experience masquerading as a racer. There's also some alleged science going on.

Rating 5/10 would puke for science again ... for free only though. One of the more immersive experiences I have had with the rift. My pc barely meets the oculus rift minimum requirements but this game runs very smooth with no stutter at all. For the price especially I highly recommend this game.. This game/viciously cruel trick does not make any sense, especially in VR! This is a great example of what a VR experience not be! I for example expected to be inspired by an interesting, scientific, and educational expierience inside of a cell of some kind. What I got was something more like a psychotic, vicious, practical joke on my visual senses. When the game launches the user is imediately and unexpectedly ejected from a peacful existance to a horrible mad-house style, uncontrollable, roller coaster.
I can't imagine anyone enjoying this, if you look closely you can tell by the reluctant look on the girls face in the trailer video when she is putting on the HMD she actually looks like she is about to throw up.
After playing this game for under five minutes I was literally nauseated/sick all day long, it obviously ruined my day.. This is, by far, the best thing I have ever seen on the rift. I honestly could not see how they could improve on the 3D experience. The depth and scaling of the scenes really make it pop, and it gives a quite beautiful landscape (think James Cameron Avatar fluorescent night scene type coloring and style). I received almost 0 ill effects from this game (an 8 hours session in half life 2 gives me a pretty bad headache). The game is fun and you can kill time in it pretty quickly without even realizing. It’s also nice that they allow you to control yourself with both your headset and a keyboard, as they give completely different experiences.

However, the game definitely needs some tweaking in a few areas.
#1 The random generators can be completely unfair. I once made a perfect run on a track in hard mode, and still lost 30 seconds. Kind of ruins the fun of a game when you are constantly put in unwinnable scenarios.
#2 Starting in hard mode, you get a bowling ball type obstacle. This obstacle can also make the game completely unfair. For example, you’re coming up on a 5-protein chain, but have the bowling balls before it. They are not likely to make it through to the red walls. I cannot find a sure way to hit the balls to guarantee at least 1 will get through.
#3 Sometimes the vertical climbs can be just a bit too steep, and the red walls come up so quickly, there is literally no time to make a guaranteed dodge, leaving it up to luck.

Although, I’m sure these problems can be fixed without having to make any large changes to the codebase, so I expect the authors will be able to get this right some point soon (“A Story About My Uncle” being a great example of early-access developers listening to the fans on gameplay tweaking :-) ). Oh. And achievements are always nice ;-). well this is it- the first vr game i`ve tried that actually made me feel that i was `there`

others have been interesting- `i can walk t/here`, `i can see behind/ under/ over that` etc, etc.
this is the first that had me tearing off my vive because i had lost all sense of `reality`
i nearly crapped myself
still feel it now
freaked my dog out also [i did, not the game]

i think i`ll try it sitting down next time, lol, or make myself a huge baby-bouncer out of bungees

vr cherry officially popped !
