God damn this game is difficult. I mean that the choices are extremely hard to make and what they will lead to is hard to determine, every choice means something and you can't just go back on it without suffering some losses. And that is a good thing. Sometimes with Choice of Games's games I can just rn through them and easily find the best scenario ending, but this one, gosh, I haven't I even finished it because I don't have the heart to see everything crumble around me and not go my way. This game gives a good dose of cold, hard reality and that gives it heart.. This is my first game published by Choice of Games that I've played and I felt like I was talking a slight risk buying it because I've never really played a choose your own adventure game but I love RPG's like the older Bioware titles, The Elder Scrolls titles, System Shock 2, etc and I also kind of like reading niche fanfiction. I actually enjoyed this game a lot since I like mecha anime. The first playthrough took me about 4 hours. Subsequent playthroughs are significantly shorter if you've skipped text you've already read on different paths and you begin to understand the flow of the game and the characters in it.

I purchased this game at full price and I think it was worth the price. I'll be trying other titles from this publisher in the future but I've heard that they can be hit or miss so read the reviews. This game is not a cash grab game and there are choices to make throughot the entire game. There's no art but thats not a big deal to me because its a choose your own adventure game after all, its not a visual novel.

I think I would have prefered the game to be slightly longer but thats more because I want to experience more mecha story and less because I don't think it's worth the price. I'd buy another game or DLC that makes makes the game longer.. This is my favorite "COG" yet. Tehe story is compelling and seems to offer you a variety of variations on the story and I expect a few different endings. I enjoyed the combat choices and descriptions and excitement of the choices. I was happy to see that there are some romance options but they don't get in way of the plot. I'd give it a chance if you are at all interested.. Very fun game in the CYOA genre, I highly recommend it for all fans of mecha anime. It does get a bit old though after a few run throughs.. The writing was mostly good, and it was neat to be a part of a Tomino-style story. The last chapter was the only weak point for me. While it was good to see that all of my choices mattered, I just couldn't help but feel the finale was a little rushed. I liked the epilogues though.. Within the first chapter I was invested, by the end of the second I was engaged, by the fifth I was scared of consequences and afraid it was about to end, by the epilogue I was in tears over losses; at the end of my 13 straight hours of gameplay I am still not done with this game. This story is beyond engaging and truly captures the essence of what a CYOA game is, the writing is amazing and the characters - despite admittedly being somewhat stereotypical of a mecha series (Looking at you Hawkins) - really shine apart.. Mecha Ace is a choose your own adventure e-book, which reads a lot like a decently written Gundam fan-fiction story. There are also character stats, which increase or decrease based on the decisions you make through out the game. If this sounds like something you're interested in, then I'd say definitely give Mecha Ace a shot. I've never played a CYOAB before, but my love of mecha anime seriously made me enjoy the time I've spent so far on this little gem.. This is pure rubbish and the second worst text-based game I've ever played. None of the things went according to my plan (yes, I know that's how war works, but a lot of "going smoothly then unfortunately some madeup♥♥♥♥♥♥happened" really♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥me off), and I could do nothing but to fail the absurd skill check again and again! What annoyed my the most is that I don't even get a single willpower point after going through torture without breaking, and after that I try to force my crippled hand to move by willpower(3), I failed! How is that fair? Am I supposed to be comforted by your ridiculous steam achievement?

I have to admit the writing is very decent but the author's ideal of gameplay balance simply disgust me. Really, the author and Choice of Games should be ashamed of trying to sell this♥♥♥♥♥♥. I absolutely HATE reading and this was actually pretty fun. I had to put on some "Space ambient music" from youtube on in the background but the rest was cake. It is simple, Read and make a choice, Butterfly Effect, read, make choice, Butterfly Effect... and so on.

I rolled my eyes HARD when I watched the video before my purchase. The game was cheap and I promised myself I would try reading more so I bought it for like $4 and I spent 9 hours on it. If you read fast then obviously it will take less time for you.

I enjoyed it and plan on buying another one of their games soon.. Quite liked this one, didn't wear out its welcome.
