Nova Drift is a "Roguelite" space shooter that melds a classic arcade experience with modern action-RPG elements like theory-crafting and deep player choice. Your ship rapidly evolves as you defeat enemies, allowing you to shape its abilities and weaponry to your desires in a matter of minutes. Unlike many ARPGs which can absorb hundreds of hours of time, Nova Drift allows you to take a ship build from inception to execution in a single game session.

Mods & Gear can be unlocked, upgraded and combined to make unexpected and powerful combinations:

Example Build #1: Seeking Cluster Grenade

Grenade + Body: Assault + High Explosive + Splinter Shot + Heat Seeking + Charged Shot



This build focuses on creating as many grenade splinters as possible using the Grenade weapon and sends them tearing toward targets using the Heat Seeking mod. The overlapping blasts from the initial explosion add up to a huge amount of damage at the epicenter, while the seeking clusters handle crowd control.

Example Build #2: Celestial Shield-Bomber

Hullbreaker + Amp Shield + Volatile Shields + Flash Shielding + Emergency Systems + Celestial Lance



This build takes advantage of the Hullbreaker's speed and resilience to crash damage to slam directly into enemies. The fragile Amp Shield is used not for defense, but to augment Hullbreaker's strongest aspects, gaining increased speed and force. The shield will break on impact, but we can capitalize on that using the Volatile Shields mod, which detonates the shield when it goes down, blasting all nearby enemies. Flash Shielding gets it running again quickly while Emergency Systems grant a moment of damage immunity, making charge attacks safer. Finally, Celestial Lance is used to deal burning damage to everything around the ship at high velocities!

Pros:
-Meaningful tactics and decisions
-Action+skill based play
-Lots of different ways to play
-I Really like the graphics
-Fun to play
-Did I mention it's fun to play?

Cons:
-I can't think of any, um, dying isn't fun?
-hmm to many mod choices that you get saturated with ones you don't want?
wait no you can re-roll your choices.
-umm I would say more gamemodes but the dev is working on that.
-Might possibly need more enemy variants.
-No laser weapons for your ship

Yeah, I think this game is really good, worth the buy I think. I'm really looking
forward to where the developer takes it, if this alone is just early access.

If the developer happens to read this, suggestion: If a mod tree you don't like
shows up, maybe have the option to remove the tree from the rest of the run.
This way its easier to get more focused builds. The re-rolls are good, but not
always enough.

Edit:
There is a ship you can unlock that has this exact effect, it allows you to use
re-rolls to remove a weapon mod from the pool.. The upgrade system in this game has a fantastic amount of depth allowing for so many different types of builds. Going through a run can be fairly difficult at stages of the game based on what kind of build your going but that just makes it more fun. Certain builds after about 15 upgrades go from bad to god tier. If you are looking for an arcade shooter to casually play with a reasonable amount of challenge and plenty of replay ability, Nova Drift's your game. 5 stars.. This game is really cool. It might not have tons of content or a story (yet), and the controls are a little weird to get used to, but it's still worth getting just to play it, because the gameplay is really what makes up this game.

The main aspect that I think makes the gameplay awesome (aside from the obvious things) is the build system. It's where the replayability comes from (at least until you start doing challenge modes). Almost any build you can run is effective, you don't need to crunch numbers or min-max (which is heavily discouraged by some soft RNG), meaning you can just choose a loadout and go for it.

Leading on from that, the options in this game are the definition of meaningful upgrades. Even the number-based upgrades are big enough so that the effects of those upgrades are noticeable. No '1% increase to X' mods here!. 10\/10, better than a lot of "fully made" games. It's not nearly as simple as it looks, currently in early access with "only" ~10 weapons, bodies, shields (many of which are offensive), and ~25(?) mod trees with 4 mods each, each mod tree drastically changing how you can play. The game as it is feels already done, but there is an entire story mode, more enemies, more mod trees, and more gear planned still. Definitely worth the 15$

There's also an active discord where you can chat with the maker of the game~ that's nice too. THE most polished Early Access game I've ever played on steam, and they're just getting started. The game is already worth the price, and more content is being added regularly.
