Max and 99 are getting ready to finally go on their honeymoon, but just as they are about to leave they find out that Max has been called up for his naval reserve duty. Max then goes to the Chief to see if he can do something but it turns out that the Chief has also been called up. Also, due to CONTROL being a secret organization, the Navy doesn't know they are secret agents. However, the worst part is that it will prevent the Chief from meeting with a Spanish secret agent. Max and the Chief soon discover that their roles are reversed as Max is an ensign and the Chief is a sailor. While on duty Max and the Chief see in a newspaper that 99 has contacted the agent, but discover that he is an impostor because he is signing 99's autograph book right handed and the real agent is left handed. Now they must find a way to get off the ship and stop the impostor before he makes off with some very important papers.
Max is temporarily called back into the Navy and he is the Chief's superior officer. They have to get back to CONTROL and are sent to the brig.
Just when a top secret foreign secret agent is due in Washington, both Max and the Chief are called into active duty with the naval reserve. Only as it turns out, Max is an ensign while the Chief is a lowly seaman, and thus 86 is the superior officer.

When the Chief discovers KAOS got them assigned to the carrier so they'd be out of the way so that no one can tell an impostor has replaced the visiting foreign agent, their job is to get off the ship and tell 99 before she turns over valuable information to the phony.

Apparently the producers got naval cooperation and permission to shoot aboard a helicopter carrier (number #10 for those in the know) and that's what inspired this rather uninspired episode. Yes, Max does another Bogart reference as he clinks the steel balls in his hand like Captain Queeg and Max does come up with a funny way to get to see the Captain. But a lot of the gags fall flat as they try to escape their prison cell and Max (accidentally of course) inflates a life raft indoors. In addition, the script makes Max a little too dumb. In one example, when he and the Chief are about to fly in a helicopter, he asks where the wings are and tries to back off when he learns there aren't any. Helicopters weren't exactly rare in 1968, so Max comes off sounding like a simpleton.

Buster Keaton showed what a great prop a large ship can be in "The Navigator". Apparently nobody involved with this episode saw it.
