A horror game with hightly complex puzzle solving and familiar characters from Uri's previews RPG games!. No. Just no.

Number 3 in the Strange Man series. I really enjoyed the other two very much, but this one is with voice actors and that ruins it for me. I had to turn off the sound and you lose so much of the game with it being muted.
I haven't played it through yet, but it's already a hassle and I can't enjoy the game at all.

Very disappointed.

EDIT: I played it through and I unlocked all the endings. The game would've been AMAZING! The story was twisted, the puzzles challenging, all the different characters in the game made it wonderfully nuanced. It gave hints to the other two games and I suppose to understand the happy end thoroughly you have to play the last game, which I am looking forward to do!
The endings were the best so far, I loved all of them and the way to get the happy end was nicely thought through. It wasn't as linear as the other two before and you really had to do lots of thinking to get all the scenes. It really got me all emotional and I am not ashamed to tell that it even made me cry.

What I disliked though, besides the voice acting, is that you sometimes click on things and you don't get a reaction whatsoever. This was not the case in the previous games, they would always tell you something (e.g. It's a decorative plant) or such. That annoyed me.

But still, I tried turning the sound on -from time to time- but I just couldn't deal with the voice actors. I understand what they tried to do, after the playthrough I read the notes from Uri, and it was an experiment, but for me personally it just ruined the whole experience. In the end I played it through with the game being muted, which robbed me of certain noises as hints and as part of the story.

Wonderful game, but I personally just can't recommend it bc of the voices.. I just love it. Its super cool. I remember when I played the free version and it was just amazing! Now I bought this Game and I love it more then before!. The Boogie Man is the third game in the "Strange Man" series. Compared to Sand man and Crooked man however, this one has full fledge voice acting, giving the characters more emotion.
You play as Keith Barring, A detective that's been given a full month to get a vacation with his wife, Helena. As a start, you go to this old castle that's about to become a tourist attraction. Once you learn about the castle's dark history, the game truly begins. Can you survive what the stone cold creature has in plan for you?
Overall Rating: 8.2/10. One of the strongest games in the series, but loses some points due to how demanding the best ending is.. I enjoy psychological horror as a genre in any format so I knew I was going to be playing some of those types of games. Though I especially like the kind where you connect to the characters and have a more in-depth knowledge of these characters. The past is shown often in The Boogie Man on having a large impact for the characters present lives. Watching the ending I really liked the line "Because people don't always see the same as you", as you discover is apparent through the game. The only thing I found hard was completing the 'Boogie Wuz Here' achievement (which was hilariously annoying how long it took me to not find them but how to make it so I get the achievement) press spacebar on the red messages/graffiti! Didn't know this was technically 3rd in a series some I'm definitely going to play the others!. Plot ####

Boogie Man is trying to kill everyone. Keith needs to stop him by figuring out how to beat his traps and save everyone. Sophie and David also return.

#### Gameplay ####

The Boogie Man set up a huge number of puzzles throughout the castle, so this explains all the clues. But since he tries to kill everyone there's no reason for him to have set up so many puzzles or create multiple locations where Keith can learn about his wife; unless he was expecting almost all his puzzles to fail.

#### Puzzles ####

The puzzles are ridiculously hard, such as having to arrange 3 sheep based on a poem in another part of the castle. There's a time limit on some puzzles, so if you don't solve them before continuing with the story you can't get the best ending.

#### Replayability ####

There's multiple endings but they don't relate to the choices you make. Fortunately you don't have to play the whole game twice.

#### Final thoughts ####

I don't recommend this due to just how difficult it is to progress through this game and the very specific choices you have to make to get a good ending.. Absolutely loved the game, just like I loved all the other games in the series. While the voice acting is a bit different for the series I thought it was a good addition and I cannot reccomend this game enough!. So first off, at the time of writing this I have played Crooked Man, Sandman and am about 2 hours in to Hanged Man, after beating this game.
(I've only wrote a review for Crooked man so far though)

Anyway, so first off I want to say I did enjoy the game. I'd be lying if I said I hated it or something. However, currently I'm rating it my least favorite of the "man" seires.
Why?
Simply because I feel it lacks the charm the others have. I feel the first two had certain elements that this one just didn't have. The Boogie Man felt way too realistic, now I bet you're saying "Why is that bad?"
Well, mainly because the first two games (and already with the 4th) had a more mystic feel to them.

Both the Crooked man and Sandman were interesting charcters and I felt a clear motive behind their behavior. I just... didn't feel that with this.
Maybe I missed something, and maybe one of the other endings says more about the Boogie man himself. But he really didn't feel like a Boogie man. He felt like just a guy, a guy who liked making people miserable and wanted to cause problems.
And beyond him saying he remembered Sofie, he didn't really have many supernatural elements going on.
And maybe that was the intention, to make this game feel more real. But with such a neat concept like the Boogie man, I don't know I was just expecting more eerieness.
Both Crooked man and Sandman felt a lot more intimidating as well, and heck Sandman wasn't even really an evil guy.

Now, despite me wanting more to be done with the Boogie man himself, I really enjoyed the characters. Keith and Helena were both pretty miserable, which obviously I can't complain about because that was kind of the point. But I really enoyed seeing Sophie and David from the previous games.

Honestly thats basically my favorite part of this, is seeing more of the connections between all the games. The game itself is built just fine compared to the other entries in the seires, although I felt it was easier to get lost in this one compared to the others.
Oh I guess I should comment on the voice acting, but I'll be honest when I say it isn't a factor in me having issues with the game. I think it's ambitious, considering it's super rare for games made in RPG maker to have voice acting (I think this series is the first to do it) In fact it's rare for indie games to have voice acting at all since it IS a lot of work. Obviously some of the voices took getting used too. I personally think the worst was Helena, she was too quiet and sounded like she was trying to record for a cute ASMR video...
But beyond that, it didn't really bother me. And I'm enjoying the voice acting even more in Hanged man, so bold move!

So yeah, that's about it. I'd recommend playing this if you're wanting to complete the series or maybe if you're like me and try any good RPG maker game you find interesting.
Overall, certainly not a bad experience I just had my expectations a bit high I believe, especially after how much I loved the sort of, twisted whimsy of the Sandman.. I really like it. A simple storyline, some nice characters and many situations where you have to think thrice and/or get some game over screens until you find a solution. I wouldn't give the voice over a prize but after playing the Hanged Man I noticed that the voice actors had tons of fun and that makes me happy.

In addition, we would like to introduce the impressions of this game from other Wolf Editor game developers!

Sen, the developer of Mad Father and Misao: Definitive Edition.
I have played Uri-san’s works going back as far as Paranoiac. The event scripting and narrative framework in each and every title has been exemplary. The atmosphere, so peculiar to this series, immerses you in these worlds the same way a good movie does.
All games in the Strange Man series are fully-fleshed out horror experiences in their own right, but fans of suspense and mystery will find much to like here, too.
The game’s difficulty level has been tuned to provide a satisfying challenge without undermining its intended experience in frustration.

Miwashiba, the developer of LiEat, Alicemare and 1bitHeart.
The Strange Man series offers up gripping horror vignettes of the highest caliber — among a gauntlet of other emotions, besides.
Horror games make me squeamish—I had to play this game from behind a pillow—but I was captivated into pushing through by the intriguing story and characters. I found myself caught in an endless cycle of wanting to move on, and being too afraid to do so.
I want for everyone to uncover what lies within for themselves; if you are in any way inclined, I urge you to play the series front to finish. Give the Strange Man series a chance to get its hook into you.
