About This Game

The flute nose dynasty has been watching over Asposia for centuries on end. In secret, they fill the roly-poly world with light and life. Emil, a trader for odds and ends, has led all the Asposians astray, making them believe that the dynasty is in cahoots with dark forces. Seriously, who knows what this weird family is doing day in, day out? The only one who could stop evil Emil is the heir to the flute nose throne: Robert. He has been petrified for three years, though. With a huge dose of enthusiasm, but little to no idea what he’s actually doing, he embarks on an adventure to find the legendary last wind monk. Of course, he has some great company: Peck, as loyal as he is flightless, and Laura, a rebel who certainly does fly, but only off the handle and who is Robert’s love with a capital L, by the way. A final ray of hope is provided by the mysterious Mama Dola, who seems to know more about Robert’s destiny than Robert himself…

I played The Inner World with my 7 year old daughter a month or so ago and we loved it. We were so pleased this sequel came out I bought it straight way. We’ve spent some very enjoyable time together playing this.

We both loved the game; it was easy enough that an old ex-adventure gamer as well as a sharp 7 year old could enjoy it. There is a mix of humour, like a good Pixar animation that adults and children can find amusing (for different reasons). There were a few jokes I kind of cringed at thinking my daughter would ask why I found it funny, but they just went over her head luckily. There were also a couple of slightly strong words used that I would have preferred my daughter not to hear, but honestly it’s probably nothing some of the kids use in the playground.

The hint system is great, as some of the puzzles seem just a little bit too obscure sometimes (but then it wouldn’t be an adventure game if it wasn’t!), but in some ways, the hint system is a bit easy to turn to. It was also highly useful as we had a few days break in between sessions so sometimes had to remind ourselves what we were doing.. It starts off with a rough direction and gets more specific the more you click on it.

Would I play it on my own without my daughter, yes! Would she want to play it on her own, maybe not, but an older child might.

If you are a casual adventure gamer, I would recommend you give it a go. It’s not going to challenge a serious adventure gamer that much, but the graphics and dialogue are super cute – we especially love the tumble mice!

Bring on the Inner World, part 3!
. Excellent. Another classic.. I don't understand some of the negative reviews this game has gotten.

What I disliked: the premise of the game
I find the premise of the game lacking in that I just couldn't find the nemesis's motivations and degree of stupidity/denial believable anymore. It feels like somewhat of a lesser retelling of the first story: Guy hates flute noses for reason X and opresses them, heroes have to defeat him for the good of flute noses and all the people of the Inner World. Also the fact that we begin our adventure with our hero just becoming unfrozen in the forest where he was trapped for the entirety of the time that has passed since the end of the last game. Mighty convenient!! I feel they could have done better here. Maybe expressing a criticism of fascism is supposed to reflect some of the current political debates that are woven into contemporary international political discourse, but in that case I find basically using a child-friendly holocaust to be a cheap shot. I'm not offended, I just feel like again, they could have done better here. Not just the adults but the children who play this game would not have been overwhelmed by, but would have benefitted from a more subtle premise here. It doesn't need to be so on-the-nose.

What I liked: the gameplay
A lot of this we already know from the first game. I found the artwork, the voice acting (in German especially) and the soundtrack very enjoyable. The world concept, with its unique geography, physics, magic, lore and humanoid and non-humanoid inhabitants is really cohesive and well-conceived with a pleasant element of whimsy.
In this game, I loved the puzzles and thought they were quite varied and clever. Figuring out the missing plant? Manipulating someone through subconscious cues? Assembling shapes in a meaningful way? Improvising a specific scent? Deciphering a code from abstruse visions? All this and more! (I intentionally phrased these vaguely enough to not really give anything away)
The objects and object combinations needed to solve the puzzles were not too crazy by adventure game standards, I was always able to figure out what was needed to move forwards, though I did need help a few times in executing it exactly as necessitated by the game. No Monkey Island "monkey wrench" situations where you think "this object makes no sense, I would never have guessed this." I thought the hint system was well done.
What I also really enjoyed was the interactive elements. I liked the use of some flute nose magic, though I think more of those puzzles wouldn't have hurt. You either play as the female or male protagonist, or you play as both to cooperate to solve puzzles. In addition, you sometimes get to use the pigeon in cooperation with the other characters. Finally their elongated pigeon friend really got the attention he/she deserves!

TLDR: While I find the premise of the game to be very weak, the gameplay experience, specifically the excellent puzzles and the cooperation between the characters more than made that up for me, I really enjoyed it. (+heroic pigeon bonus). I absolutely loved the 1st Inner World installment to bits. The Last Wind Monk so far is no different.
The art style, characters, plot, world and music are all simply amazing!

I highly recommend this game to any fan of the classic point n' click adventures. Studio Fizbin is one of the 2 companies I can think of who are still using a hand drawn animation for point n' click adventures, the other one being Daedalic Entertainment, both hailing from Germany and both making AMAZING games. Although Studio Fizbin made just 2 overall, I see a bright future ahead of them ;)!

PS. In the future DON'T USE UNITY ENGINE. I know it's free, but it sucks and while the game works like it should, I'm still getting an occasional framerate drop here an there, on a machine that should be eating a 2D game for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the same time ;P.. If you like Point and Click Adventures you shouldnt miss this.
Cant wait to see more of the Inner World.. tl;dr: Good, albeit short point & click adventure with a useful help feature.

Just like its prequel, this is a classical point & click adventure.
Talk to characters, pick up items, combine them with the world or with each other, etc.
The formula doesn't need changing and this game doesn't attempt to.
A few nice mechanics are added like switching between characters (depending on the chapter) or playing music with your flute-nose.

The story, art, music and voice acting are all good, even if not outstanding.
And the story of its predecessor is brought to a nice end - I don't expect a third installment.

Of course, a big +1 for offering a well-working linux version.

There are two notable downsides to the game, though:

First, it is short. There's no denying it. 6-8 hours just isn't really long when compared to the likes of Monkey Island, The Whispered World, etc.

The second problem is that many puzzles are of the famed "moon logic" as some adventure games unfortunately are.
Sometimes, you basically end up combining everything with everything else and when you accidentally hit the solution, you end up thinking "well... that was weird".
Thankfully, the game has a built-in walkthrough, that can give you hints step by step without spoiling too much. This offsets the moon logic somewhat, so I'd say this is just a minor downside.. I think Robert might be my favorite modern game character - I love everything about him. This is a lovely sequel to the original. I pretty much play P&C games exclusively, and as far as modern P&C series go, this is up there with The Blackwell Trilogy, The Journey Down, and The Book of Unwritten Tales for me.

The music is great, I especially love the flute-nose ditties. A few old characters and some new characters (my favorite being the mystery bag peddler). Great comedic dialogue that can appeal to both adults and children. Great artwork. Puzzles are a balanced level of difficulty - you won't need to check a walkthrough.

I'm still not a huge fan of Laura, but I do like her relationship with Robert and he seems less afraid of her this time around. Emil is a weaker villain than Conroy. I also think this ending was weaker than the original. I think once we find out a certain thing about Emil, the stakes felt significantly lower to me.

My liking of Robert and the world of Asposia completely overshadows the problems I have with The Last Wind Monk. I'm looking forward to the next game.

Also, this is not a prequel :). Great point&click puzzle game, fantastic characters, witty dialogue. I really hope they'll made the third installment of this series, really looking forward to how the final story unfold.
