Ray Quick is an ex-CIA bomb expert now living as an high-tech outsider somewhere in Miami, Florida. May Munro has heard of his skills and tries over and over to convince Ray to bomb the guys who once killed her parents. Ray begins to overshadow May. He is interested in May's case, but still is of the opinion to never use his skills again. The situation changes dramatically when a former CIA comrade of Ray appears on the scene.
May Munro is a woman obsessed with getting revenge on the people who murdered her parents when she was still a girl. She hires Ray Quick, a retired explosives expert to kill her parent's killers. When Ned Trent, embittered ex-partner of Quick's is assigned to protect one of Quick's potential victims, a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues.
I caught this again on AMC, and was casually watching this, still on now.

The music was so Barry familiar, I knew it was John Barry, as I can usually predict the ST artist for many films, but I have to say, I thought the score matching to the scene, sucked! I mean really! I was hoping to log into IMDb and NOT see John Barry. I wonder what they paid him. Its like he put his score on auto play, took a long coffee break and let the music and movie run recording.

Horrible job with soundtrack timing with visual elements.

S "The Specialist" is probably not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it is surprisingly bland for a Stallone flick. Everyone involved just seems to be sleepwalking through it, which is the last thing you want to see in an action flick. Director Luis Llosa (of "Anaconda"...fame?) probably can't do much better than this, but I've never seen Sly look so bored throughout a movie. Same with Eric Roberts, usually his bad guy schtick is pretty entertaining but this performance is just totally phoned in. Particularly the first half of "The Specialist" drags like crazy, the only thing that kept me awake there is Sharon Stone's intense hatred for bras. In the second half the movie does manage to pick up the pace, but there's no tension whatsoever because you know exactly how it will end. Everyone who watches the first ten minutes of this thing knows that the climax is going to be James Woods talking for way too long and then getting killed, so why take so damn long to get there? It's not all bad though, because in the end "The Specialist" shows us the most unconvicing movie kiss I've ever seen. It almost makes everything worth it. Almost.

Former CIA operative turned hired assassin Ray Quick (Sylvester Stallone) is hired by the beautiful and mysterious May Munro (Sharon Stone) to kill Tomas Leon (Eric Roberts) the arrogant son and heir of Miami crime boss Joe Leon (Rod Steiger) and two of Leon's hitmen. May reveals to Ray that she seeks revenge upon Tomas Leone and the two hitmen whom were responsible of the brutal murders of her parents, which she witnessed as a child. Ray agrees and he manages to kill the two hitmen with bombs. However, Joe Leone assigns Tomas's bodyguard Ned Trent (James Woods) a manipulative corrupt former CIA explosives expert to find the assassin and protect Tomas at all costs. But, after Ray kills Tomas,which May is killed in the process. Ray becomes suspicious, when he learns May is very much alive and that she faked her own death and Ray begins to suspect that he is being set up and he soon learns May is working for Trent, whom is bent on seeking revenge upon him, after Ray had Ned fired from the CIA, when Ned refused to abort the assassination mission of a South American drug dealer, which an innocent little girl was killed and that Ned made a deal with May to hire Ray and use him to kill Tomas and the 2 hitmen and so he can set a trap on him and hand him over to Joe, so Joe can kill him in retaliation for Tomas's death.
