Two cops in Los Angeles try to track down the vicious criminal Eric Masters (Willem Dafoe). Then, one of them is killed by Masters and the other...William Petersen) loses his partner and friend Jim Hart in an inves...John Pankow) is assigned to work with Chance, who is obsessed with capturing Eric 'Rick' Masters, the criminal responsible for Jim's death. Chance risks both his partner's and his own career trying to arrest Rick.
Everyone comments on the chase, and of course, it is a technically and artistically thrilling sequence, probably the second best on film after the scene in Bullitt.

The best part of this film, however, is the character study of the Secret Service agent played by William L. Peterson. He's right on track as the macho, Chicago-accented agent who has an unhealthy single-minded obsession with bringing down master counterfeiter Willem Dafoe. Peterson's determination only intensifies after his partner is murdered.

You get to see John Pankow as the straight-laced agent who becomes Peterson's new partner and watch as he struggles with the moral and legal dilemmas inherent in law enforcement. He is repulsed by Peterson's vigilante tactics, but is reluctantly drawn in to the chaos.

Some relegate this film to late-night, B-movie status. After all, it was scored by Wang Chung!!! But, the movie is more than it seems. It's solidly acted, well paced and very interesting to look at.
