The IMF goes to a prison camp inside a totalitarian Latin American country. At the camp, an opposition leader is kept in isolation. One of his followers arranged to be arrested and has become a trustee, helping to get the opposition leader's messages out to his countrymen. Prisoners believe the trustee to be an informer. Phelps and Barney arrive as prisoners, aiming to expose the real informer. They're aided by Cinnamon (posing as a Red Cross official) and Rollin (as a guard). The question is whether Phelps can work fast enough to save an innocent man's life.
In 1953, Peter Graves acted in a prison camp movie set for "Stalag 17." 15 years later, in "Trial By Fury," he worked in the Stalag XIII set of "Hogan's Heroes."

Among the convicts and detainees is an informer who must be exposed. The prisoners, led by the tough Klaus (an excellent Paul Winfield), think they have their man and have already beaten him. Their tempers become much worse after a would-be escaper is killed in a truck. By that time, Jim and Barney are "in" but cannot help the innocent man until they see the right evidence. They find themselves with no choice but to participate in psychological torture.

It's up to Cinnamon (as a Red Cross aide) and Rollin (as a guard officer) to find out how the commandant is informed, then sneak the evidence to their inside colleagues. There are a few contrivances and nitpicks (would any real commandant decode a message in the presence of guests he's never seen before?), and the acting is occasionally weak (Bain sometimes seems ahead of her era, performing at the same level as in "Space: 1999" of a decade later), but the episode as a whole is tense fun. Jim's closing line sums it well. Jim Phelps and the IMF are in a mission to expose an informer inside a Third World prison in "Trial By Fury".

The IMF is tasked to save an opposition leader that is being imprisoned inside a totalitarian prison camp in a Latin American country.A fellow prisoner is helping him to relay his message outside the prison camp to his countrymen.Apparently,something is wrong inside as an informer has been reported and the fellow prisoner is highly suspected.The IMF takes this mission to report the real informer.Phelps and Barney disguise themselves as prisoners.Cinnamon poses as an official of the Red Cross.As for Rollin,he acts as a guard.

This is a highly interesting episode as the IMF uncovers the real informer.It obviously has gritty story and the plot has a dangerous setting as Phelps's team acts inside the prison camp.Also worth mentioning is the excellent production values and a highly improvisational mission that the Mission Impossible writers have placed the IMF into.
