A thriller set in a world sharply divided between progress and devastation, where people are given the chance to make it to the "better side" but only 3% of the candidates succeed.
A world divided into progress and devastation. The link between the two sides - Offshore and Inland - is a rigorous and painstaking system called The Process. Everyone in Inland has a chance to go through The Process to live a better life in Offshore. But only 3% make it through.
Yeez, this is just another terrible piece of nonsense. I am a great fan of sci-fi but all this pseudo-sci-fi movies and shows of recent productions are just getting on my nerves - politely spoken. Why!? This is just another crap made for a young target audience disguised as sci-fi. Why!? Because there is no science in it, its just an adventure story for the young embedded in a "futuristic setting" (just rewrite the location into a orphanage, boarding school with a mean headmaster - you got the same story). Alone first of all the premise of this show is not 3 but 100% bull**** - if I would have such a society as depicted in 3% I would not recruit adolescents in their puberty - they are the worst to educated and to train because of all the hormonal changes going on - schools are proof of that fact ;) A totalitarian society would choose (yes, we already have tests for that purpose) the best, most talented and intelligent kids around the age of 4 and 5 etc. and then educated them to the needs of the society - kids are far more easy to control compared to adolescents or adults. Many totalitarian societies like the Nazis or the Sovjets trained or train their new elites from their childhood on etc. So we get another story of young adolescents a la The Thinning, Divergent, the 100 and lalala for one reason: it's the target group of those movies and shows. Just compare these movies with the real deals of dystopian movies a la Soylent Green, 1984, Fahrenheit, Logan's Run etc. - whereas these classics are made for a mature audience and some are based on classics of sci-fi-literature targeted on a mature audience and are profounded reflections of modern societies, in movies and shows a la 3% and the for-mentioned you get these Enid Blyton like-stories without any real science or society-reflection in it. Never ever have adolescents the guts, the knowledge and the powers to change a society or to rebel with success against it. Proof me wrong and show me an example in history. This is no sci-fi but a bad written adventure story which is just annoying for any adult and lover of sci-fi to watch. Thumbs down for this piece of Pokémon. This show just hops from one cliché to the next. Of course for the target audience between 12 and 17 (identification)this show may work well. Last but not least: the show's production value, the camera work and the acting are at best of mediocre TV-level.
I happened across the name of this series. I began to watch it two days ago, and I just finished it. A true binge-watch show. I usually can forecast plot lines, but in this series, I was truly wowed several times. Some of the series was predictable, but much was not. I loved that!

I hope that the layers of the characters can be explored even further in the coming season. let the characters "move" the story even more. As an English-speaker, reading the words said on the screen didn't bother me at all.
