For such a cheaply priced game it's very much worth the price and shows quite a bit of talent on the part of the developer. I'll do some positives and negatives (overall I do love the game) Positives + Great concept the idea of being the sole survivor of a plane crash and having to stumble your way through the game + Will likely take 2 hours or about that to finish your first play through with harder modes available. + Great visual feedback with things like blood splatter to show injury an even a visual depiction of your character getting hypothermia to allow you to act before they potentially die. + Extremely tense this is closer to a rouge like game as one death and you start again, luckily each time you'll be a bit better knowing more what to do. + Very much a game that rewards exploration but does have more going on + Quite extensive options menu (for the price) with Fahrenheit or Centigrade (Celsius) and WASD or Arrow controls Negatives - Other than achievements there is none of the other Steam integration features so no screenshots (at least screenshots didn't work for me) - The game is a little iffy explaining mechanics E.G. while you can go out gathering you'll normally only get berries and some food, it's rare you'll get wood. The best way to get wood is to leave your camp and go through the scrolling area. Or the game saying your body temperature will drop when you sleep without explaining that if you build up your fire beyond a certain point your body temperature will go up after a sleep. Once you figure it out it's fine but it's a hump. - RNG can and will screw you a lot. It's somewhat RNG when you'll get certain items from exploring and later in the game Avalanches are a major way you can get screwed. I can attest to a run of 5+ almost one after another leading to my losing. On top of that are random bears and the wolves that turn up in different areas later. I'd say this really is a game where you have to be ok with it totally screwing you over sometimes and this would be a negative for some. - Could do with a little extra explanation on the option as to what for example Theatre mode does or what changes for Extreme difficulty Overall The game costs so little and seems such good quality with the faults being ones fairly easily overcome or with RNG it's kind of very subjective as to how much it impacts you I'd say for the price the faults and for the quality on display it's very easy to overlook those negative points and it makes for quite an enjoyable time.. Short but still pretty fun. Plays like INSIDE. Priced well at less and $1 USD. Could use some extra music. https://youtu.be/m85j0g3oe1g. hard to play sorry. i mean its meh but its only $1 so. i mean its meh but its only $1 so. Controls are more than frustrating.. All in all Alone is an intriguing Limbo-esque platformer with some unique mechanics. The environment is eerie and the music helps to set the mood (at least initially; it gets a bit redundant after a while). My major complaint concerns the mechanics of the game. Jumping, climbing ladders, pushing boxes, and bouncing on fireflies (you'll see) are the major activities you'll be performing and none of them feel as intuitive as they should in a basic platformer. Jumping is not a precise as I would like and forward momentum often carries you well over your goal. On the other hand, many double jumps that rely on fireflies are spaced to the point that there is no margin for error. I never felt like I actually mastered the jumping. I just kept trying until I got lucky. Particularly in a platformer, jumping is a vital piece of the game's mechanics. Ladders are a little clunky, but it's really just the jumping off of them that's difficult for the same reasons previously mentioned. Boxes are a little too susceptible to pushing and more than once a collision with a rock made the box propel me into the air only to meet an abrupt death against the ground. Some more prompts would also be helpful as I only received one and while I'm normally a fan of trial and error, double-jumping off of fireflies is not a thing I can do in real life and I would not have thought about trying it if I hadn't stumbled onto it. The good news is that the game is short enough and the checkpoints frequent enough that the mechanics don't get too frustrating. The price is also low enough that I don't feel cheated out of money. Despite my complaints, I did enjoy the game and I would love to see some more polish and gameplay. I would definitely be interested in a more refined version and would pay more to play it: as long as the content was there. Good job overall. I hope to see more in the future.. Controls are more than frustrating.. Hey, you have made a cool lil game. The music was fun, it created a good vibe. Controlls took a while to figure out, with the ladders and crawling, (played with keyboard). Game took trial and error to figure out, seemed abit unfair at some times, but in general i liked it. Must have died like 40 times in the end bit before figuring it out. :) Good job. Keep it up.
