Thirty years after the events of Evil Dead, Ash is a loner, living a dull existence, still not able to come to grips with the events that started at the cabin. In the event of a Deadite invasion, Ash must attach his chainsaw and pick up his trusty boomstick one more time, all while finally coming to terms with his past.
Ash has spent the last thirty years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terrors of the Evil Dead until a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind and Ash becomes mankind's only hope.
I'm not a big B(C)-movie fan, I just feel bad most of the time wasting my free time on a stupid plot, bad actors, cheesy CG, lousy editing, horrendous dubbing, you name it. But I think this show, especially the 2nd season is just hilarious. Lot of nerdy quotes from the original movies (that were never as much fun as the series), tongue-in-cheek references from other movies, really good special effects (the "anal" scene from the morgue will haunt me to my old days :) ), Bruce Campbell. Just great.

Hopefully we get many more seasons (with episodes of more than 20 mins, please). I wish people would take out of consideration the fact that this involves Bruce Campbell & Sam Raimi, and judge it by content. If you look at this sans-nostalgia, it's purely stupid. The jokes are the witless hardy-har kind (unimportant spoiler: Ash idiotically walks through shards of shattered bulbs he just smashed, wincing in pain...really?) I get that it's trying to maintain it's cheesiness, but even campy stuff needs to be original (possessed lamps and mounted heads in Evil Dead 2 got it right).

I love the Evil Dead movies, even the new one. So, I'm not judging this as an outsider or as someone who hates reboots. I'm the ideal audience, and they still got it wrong with me. Oh, also, the gore looks terribly CGI. I remember the creator of the 2013 Evil Dead talking about preserving the tangibility of the original movies by using props and blood buckets over CGI in his own. I wish they'd done that here, too, because it really is important to the essence of Evil Dead.
The show follows Evil Dead 1 and 2. Evil Dead 2 is referenced the most. Army Of Darkness is never referenced due to rights issues. It could be said that the events still happened, but Ash never bothers mentioning his travelling through time because nobody ever believed him. In the original Evil Dead, Ash throws the book of the dead into the fireplace, it appears to burn and destroy the remaining two deadites. However if you watch the scene closely, you see while the book reacts to fire, we never see it actually being destroyed. The book's eyes open and a tongue extends from it and that's the last we see of it. In Evil Dead 2, the Necronomicon is seen sitting on a table, Ash briefly reads from it and then it isn't seen again (although the first 7 minutes of Evil Dead 2 are supposed to be recap and not exactly canon) for the rest of the film, they use the lost pages of the book.
