About This Game

A diorama is NOT a game, nor is it a demo. Simply put, a diorama is a painting you can visit with a simple goal of inspiring a sense of wonder. They are an ideal retreat to think and be somewhere else.

In 'Blocked In' you will visit the workspace of a Russian scientist to enjoy an extraordinary view of the end of the world by tetronimoes, that will leave you ‘Blocked In’.

Blocked In is the first entry in 'The Shoebox Diorama', an ongoing series of fantastical dioramas for VR devices by interactive illustrator 'Daniel Ernst'. A diorama can be explored as a standalone experience or as an interconnected experience through the ‘Table of Contents’ diorama (coming soon), which serves as the central hub.

'Blocked In' was first released in late 2013 for the DK1. For many early adopters ‘Blocked In’ was their first introduction to VR and has been one of the defining VR experiences. It also coined the term diorama for these types of VR experiences.

Kind of like an interactive painting, but without much interacting except for moving around the space. It's nice to just boot up and sit and listen to the radio or the game music as blocks slowly fall in and out of frame, casting shadows into the room. $1.99 isn't too bad for all the love and care you can see went into this Diorama. Curious where #2 is though. May look into buying #3. Keep up the good work! Loved the little box diorama that came before the actual Blocked In room.. Took me a little too long before I realised this was an Alexey Pajitnov<\/a> (Mr Tetris!) simulator.

Why is the calendar from 1984? Why is there a gameboy on the shelf? Why are there tetris blocks flying from the sky outside? All became clear once I stopped thinking and allowed the Diorama to take hold.

Still wish buttons can be pressed by Vive controllers.

Would like to see more environments from this author, but interactive, so you can take every vintage object of interest in your hand like in pilot episode of FOO show.. 1 space buck too much. This is a unique product, made with love, and care. You basically get to stick your head inside a couple of diorama (boxes), one a small demo, and the other the Tetris themed room. I love when VR goes small scale like that, but you could easily spend more time in the free Gnomes and Goblins demo (more places to stick my head into). I liked this, but there's a strong chance you will feel burned if you buy it. This diorama (and the others in the series) do a nice job of giving you a scene to experience. The miniature diorama menu itself is great, a really unique way of doing a level select in VR.. Nice experience, although I think the best scene is the first one, where you can walk around the room and look out the window. THE BLOCKS!. I remember playing the original Blocked In when it was a demo for the Oculus Rift DK1 and it was a really cool experience back then. Now that I can play it with HTC Vive it feels so much better since I can move around, look close at objects, and it has more view points. I think for the low price it is a cool little experience to try out. They have also made it so you can move between view points at your leisure..
