The world's best fighters are invited to DOA, an invitational martial arts contest. There, four female rival fighters will have to work together to uncover the secret that the organizer of the tournament is trying to hide.
A number of fighters are invited to DOA, an invitational martial arts contest. They travel to the tournament island by plane, until they have to jump out mid-flight with parachutes, and then have until sundown to reach the main island to be entered into the tournament. Fighters are then pooled against one another in a knock-out style tournament, with the loser of a battle sent home, and the winner progressing to the subsequent round. The plot revolves around four female fighters who begin as rivals, but subsequently find themselves teaming up against another force.
This film wasn't the best, on the previews it look like it was stacked full of action but wasn't. The only reason it got a 4 from me was because of the women. Also i don't often say this much but there wasn't enough violence in this film thats something it totally lacked in. Also it was very far-fetched a lot of totally outrageous and unrealistic thing going on. I think this film will struggle to do good in its release in the USA as it has came out here in the UK and i think it was poor. It was rated 15 but for what, OK there was a lot of scenes with women walking around with the bare minimum on but thats it really but as fare as violence goes i'll rate it PG.
I just got round to seeing this movie and got to say that I loved it for what it was.

Basic story is that of a group of fighters gathered from across the globe to fight in the DOA tournament to win $10 million. Sub plots revolve around Devon Aoki's characters search for her missing brother, a plot by two other fighters to hijack more than the $10 million prize money and one fighters determination to prove herself to her father and others as a real fighter.

The film is not going to win any Oscars for its plot but it is full of great set piece fights, laugh out loud scenes and more importantly it was just plain fun.

If you have your brain tuned down then this film will hit all the right spots for you if you like fast paced action, fighting and a few laughs. The action has more to do with digital effects than true martial artistry, and is targeted squarely at adolescent boys too young to rent porn and gamers too lazy to yank their own joysticks.
