very fun game. My summary in 4 sentences: The idea of the game is stupid to me.Timed dungeon game with exploring?I'm sorry,but I made like 10 legit attempts,all ending because the time ran out.The pixel graphics dont look good,the game lagged ocasionally.. A non-biased quick look the game: A superb and very addictive top-down rogue-lite adventure. Fight through the non-linear procedurally generated overworld and dungeons with over 30 weapon types, which can be mixed and matched to your liking. While death is permanent, every new run brings new loot, monsters, and challenges.. EDIT: Developer jumped on all of the bugs I mentioned within 5 hours and pushed fixes for them, and asked for more. Original review still listed for completeness sake, but this is definitely a developer worth supporting. Major usability bugs are gone. ---------- This needs to be listed as Early Access. Unless there's a bug on the review page, it is not. Even at full price, I can't see this game going for a fair price of $7.99. Right now the game has several experience-destroying bugs, and even when it's working the content is pretty bland. It's clear the developer is putting in hard work, but comparing this game to early RotMG is a joke. There is no player-player interaction(arguably the crux of rotmg) Pros: - Sounds are good - Weapons all feel different and have a different use - Feels satisfying to hit things - Controls are tight enough Cons: - EDIT: FIXED - If at any point you click off the screen, you're done. Your character will keep moving and your key will get locked. This is compounded by a hard to see cursor. - Enemies all feel similar. They either rush you down or spam you with projectiles. - Dungeons take forever and all feel the same. - Entire game hinges on which bosses you roll. Some of them take forever and keep you at bay, while others just stand still and die for you. You definitely want the latter of the two. - Chests never feel useful. It's much more effective to just get the shark cannon and go win. - Every playthrough feels the same. I beat the first campaign so I could say I gave it a fair shot, in four tries. The second campaign is the exact same thing except bosses/elites spawn everywhere, instead of just at boss spots or elite spots. The bosses don't feel like they were designed to have synergy. I want to like this game, as Realm holds a place in my heart, but it just feels like a paid version of a free game that does everything better. It would be worth in its current state IF: - It was at the $2.50 level. There are just so many other things out there for $8 or even $5 that are *better*. - It was marked Early Access. This does not feel like a finished product. - It did something new. Adding a timer to the game lies directly at odds with any strategy besides 'rush', and rushing doesn't feel fun in this game. - It had online multiplayer. Playing by myself is boring, but I could see this being okay with a friend.. When I purchased this game, I thought meh, a small game to spend 50 cents on. I was so wrong. This game is extraordinarily fun. I can never seem to make it past the first level thought. Despite being bad at the game, It's not the kind of game to get angry at. I just continue trying which is why this game is so addictive.. This game is unstable, buggy, and just generally feels unbalanced and unfair. Not worth a penny! I regret buying this being seduced by its ROTMG-like gameplay style.. For as simple as this game is, it is equally fun. For as fun as this game is, it is equally challenging. This is one of those incredibly rare instances where a game that costs $0.49 is actually fun to play. Typically, I buy games for 49 cents because I have a few cents left on my account and can't buy a "real" game, so I get a game like this. I download them, try them once, and never play them ever again. I bought Earth Overclocked and have been playing for 2 hours straight. I barely even do that with games I'm excited about. The premise is so simple, it is challenging, it requires some strategizing, and best of all, it has controller support. Considering the price of this game you absolutely cannot go wrong. Buy it now, thank me later.
