It will never be on sale I'm sorry (me, the individual writing this review and not the publisher, am personally not sorry for spending $3 less on a video game) but it's totally worth it if you don't enjoy "graphics" as a main focus of gameplay or playing as a single player in a "Soccer" game. It stands out from FOF7 (a game now treated like an abandoned cat toy) by being much prettier in the user interface, updated 2017-2018 mainstream popular American sport "Soccer" roster, wink wink nudge nudge, Developer (just 1 guy, probably white) support and extra meticulous features not found in FOF7. Otherwise, see my FOF7 review for the same opinion. This game is very immersive when it comes to maintaining a "soccer" game, either as a general manager or the head coach. The draft aspect is addicting as hell.. I wanted to revisit my initial review, which I have left in its entirety below. I still am somewhat frustrated with the blind auction system used for free agents, however, having played the game a bit longer, it is not as bad an issue as I initially thought. I was able to overpay somewhat and consistently get free agents I wanted signed. Also, there were instances where a player did not sign immediately, and I could see all the offers other teams made for that player. I could then choose whether to out bid them or not. I wish this was always the case, but as noted above, it is not so bad as my initial review makes it out to be. One of the reasons for this is that the salary cap seems to be a bigger issue than availability of free agents, so it is not as critical that you get your guy through free agency. You can get decent players in the draft each year, and I have found the draft to be enjoyable. I have also found trading to be relatively straightforward and enjoyable as well, though I have only traded extraneous players for draft picks up to this point. Also since my initial review, I have had a chance to look around and see what other types of NFL Football manager games are out there, and I believe that Front Office Football is the best of those available currently. There is a lot of depth and detail in this game, I have found that the game does draw you in and make you feel like you are creating a real football team. The various frustrations that come up end up being minor compared to the overall enjoyment I get from making my team and playing the game. For this reason I am changing my recommendation to a yes for this game, and would like to say I am happy I gave it another shot. I do want to note that I think the best way this game could be improved is by improving the clarity of information that is given to the player. Most of my frustrations from the game stem from something happening and me not really knowing what is happening or why. Of course, there is an element to that in real life, but it is important that the game doesnt get too much of a 'guess what the developer was thinking' component to it. Ok, to wrap up, the game does have some wrinkles, but I am enjoying it so I would recommend it. (This is my initial review and my opinion on the game has changed) The free agent system is completely broken, and that is one of the most important elements of a team management simulation. To sign a free agent, you engage in blind auctions, meaning you make a contract offer, and then every other team gets to make a contract offer, and then a player just signs with a team at some point. There are no negotiation updates, ie, Dallas offered me 3 million over 3 years, will you offer me more? The player just signs with a team based on initial offers - at least to a degree. I did some save as and reload testing to try to get a better idea of how this blind auction works, and the results were very disappointing. I offered a player a max bonus and max salary for 5 years, ie 73 million dollar bonus, and 43 million dollars a year salary for 5 years, and for some unexplained reason he signed with another team that offered him 1.5 million bonus and about 1.5 million a year for 3 years. I can't imagine a reason for this kind of game design. With this kind of Free Agent system there is not any team building element to the game, and balancing payroll and salary cap are an illusion. There is certainly no strategy to any of it. You are just hitting continue buttons and hoping for the best.. One of my all time favourite game series. Very detailed and enjoyable.. This game is awesome, I recommend it to anybody with a interest in football.. A great football game. Fun to play, very complex and with a ton of depth. Suggestions: - Better scouting for college players for the draft; - Stats from the college years; - Draft stories; - More realistic MVP choices, for example I had a QB that lead the league in passing yards and rating, leading my team to a SB victory and they selected the fifth in passing yards and the second in passing rating, but it isn't a very big need; - Better decisions for the AI, for example a 39 rating QB won the MVP but went to free agency because he was a 39 ovr. ***Bonus*** -A college game; Overall this is by far the best football management game in the PC, with beating by a mile Madden Franchise Mode. It is very fun to see how the league changes over the course of the years, and there isn't an end date, what makes things better. Negatives: - Small community in other countries other than USA (I'm from Brazil, never found another guy that plays FOF8); Positives: - Everything else. - Very easy to run, doesn't need anything special to run; - Very fast loading; - Very in depth; What in hell are you waiting to buy this game? Are you a football fan? Then I don't understand what you're waiting for, don't even try to explain to me.. Front Office Football has been on my desktop since the very first version. But, I am not a fan boy. Nothing of it's kind has ever come across my path to supplant it. Those that give it the investment of time, will surely find a rich environment that gives a complete experience of NFL team management. While others can go into specifics and mechanics, and they are both in depth, and challenging, I will just relay that the experience takes you from the micro enjoyment of getting that player in the draft you wanted, or nabbing that under valued free agent who is your missing piece to greatness, to the macro of matching your stats against the greats and seeing years roll by as you create a dynasty, or fall by the wayside. Push button fanatics, will not like this game, and those without the patience to learn it's rhythm really shortchange themselves. But those in the middle, won't be let down. The game allows quick simming most areas, and the seasons can be as short or as long as you wish. Find that sweet spot you enjoy, and it will be there waiting. For instance, I wanted to learn the salary cap, and how to really apply it to real world examples. This game has been the best instructor than any college could provide. Even after 17 plus years of playing this, I still get surprises and enjoyment. It has never left my desktop, and I can say that about no other game.. You've spent years assembling a competitive football franchise, and you've finally seen the success you have anticipated. It's the Superbowl, and you're down 35-28 with two minutes left. Your franchise QB (dare I say future Hall of Famer?) leads a decisive two minute drill to tie the game at 35-35, and for the first time ever the Superbowl goes into overtime. You receive the kick and once again drive down the field, but you are stopped near the opponent's 40 yard line. It's fourth down and 1 yard to go, and it's too far to kick a reliable field goal. You could punt the ball away, but your defense has been exposed today, and you doubt that they can hold. You could go for the first down, but if you fail you'll give your opponent's high-flying offense the ball back with a chance to win the game in excellent field position. Weighing your options, you finally decide to try and go for the first down. You line up in a power run formation, with your opponent in a goal line formation, and you run the ball straight up the gut of the defense. Your RB takes the handoff -- and is stuffed by the opponent's defense. You turn the ball over on downs and the opponents march down the field and score the game-ending field goal. Only then do you realize the sheer effort required to create a championship franchise, and only then do you realize you could lose it all in overtime of the biggest game of the year. There are no medals for valor, and no trophies for second place. But hey -- at least your franchise left tackle is signed to a team-friendly deal for the next five years.. Unfortunately all that seems to matter is how good your players are. You cannot outcoach anybody or can't get outcoached. If you have better players you win, if the other team has better players they win, no matter the play calls. That's a little frustrating.. The best. Around.
