God's Basement is a first-person, narrative-driven, single player horror game. The deeper you explore, the more you remember about your past life, along with the horrors associated with it. Story

You wake up in a normal, almost monotonous office room, hearing the faint sound of a phone ringing in the next room. The caller is an entity that introduces himself as The Operator, and gives you a set of instructions to follow. The documents around the room imply that you are in the afterlife, a specific version of the afterlife called God's Basement. The Operator keeps instructing you to go deeper and explore the depths of God's Basement, while simultaneously revealing the details of your past life, along with the horrors associated with it.

Gameplay

God's Basement doesn't have any complicated mechanics. The game doesn't involve any survival, retaliation or "hide and seek" style gameplay. Atmospheric horror elements are emphasized, along with creepy and borderline disturbing imagery. Most of the events in the game are scripted and straightforward although there are puzzles and riddles to be found. This game follows more of a "Walking-Simulator" style of gameplay than an action oriented one. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed survival horror experience, this game probably won't satisfy that need. Buggy? Nothing happened. I was stuck in the first area for 20+ minutes. I did exactly what the hint said but it didn't seem to trigger anything. I turned on the TV, looked at it, and stood by the sign forever waiting for the blood to appear. No blood appeared. Was I not standing on the exact right pixel or something?

Also, setting the controls to Xbox lets you use the Xbox controller as input, but all of the on-screen input prompts still only tell you keyboard keys. Very confusing, and the controller doesn't work in the menus so you still need keyboard and mouse. And the game is 90% stock Unity assets. Might be worth 3 to 5 bucks, but asking 15 dollars for this is absolutely insane.

If you're interested, like I was, consider playing the demo first.. This is easily the best PT-inspired game ever made. The atmosphere is thick and fantastic. The storytelling was a little heavy handed at times, but ultimately, holy♥♥♥♥♥♥this is a nightmarish adventure. Seriously, GET THIS. THIS is the way to do atmospheric horror.. 10/10 would recommend. Phenomenal game, story line has a lot of meaning behind it!!!!!!. I have never reviewed a game before, burt felt that I had to with this one.
God's Basement is a beautifully atmospheric, creepy, and deep horror game with a fantastic story and satisfying ending.
For every moment that you are in this game there is the feeling of building tension, danger and the unraveling of a deeper narrative.
I highly recommend to anyone that likes creepy story driven games.

Well done Erebus!!!. Incredible job on this. Your choice of music for this game was genius and it fit the atmosphere so well (especially at the last scene, I couldn't think of a better track to fit the player's emotions). You have a great talent for storytelling as well as creating visually stunning atmospheres that draw the player into the story. Jumpscares, in my opinion, are one of the most degenerate acts humanity has come up with, but you executed them well at appropriate times. Scares are better when they're not just quick, loud noises that induce involuntary muscle spasms, and it looks like you knew that. You obviously know how horror should be done. Parts of this legitimately freaked me out. Well done, sir. Well done. And remember; good luck :). Come for the story/horror. Stay because you can't seem to figure out what to interact with to continue the chain of events. At times, the gameplay could become quite boring, but you don't stop playing because you want to finish the story. I did a complete run through during a 4 hour stream. That ending y'all. Play for that twist ending. If you like story driven games, I would highly recommend this game.. Game was awesome. It really makes you think throughout the whole game and has awesome music in it. Would def play the game if i were you. Very good game, played it from beginig to end. Interesting narrative and concept. I can`t wait to play another game from Erebus !. Really nice horror/puzzle game with focus on the story.
