The clumsy Cooper is called by his chief Maureen to be fired from his job. Out of the blue, they hear a shrill noise and they faint. When Cooper wakes up, the finds wrapped in a cocoon and sees a giant insect. He succeeds to escape and release Maureen. They find that the city has been taken over by giant insects and Maureen runs to the street to save her daughter Sara. However a flying insect captures Maurren and Cooper and Sara runs to his office. They release a group from the cocoons and the strong Hugo that is deaf; the sexy and dumb weather girl Cindy; and the janitor Albert decide to cross the street to visit Albert's son that is sick; Cindy's family; and finally Cooper's estranged father Ethan. Cooper hits on Sara and when an insect catches her, he decides to go to their nest to rescue Sara and blow-up the structure. Will he succeed?
Our hero, Cooper, awakes to find himself nauseous, weak and covered in webbing, hanging from the ceiling of an office where, just minutes ago, he started his new job. As he struggles out of his slimy prison he comes face to face with his opponent - a grotesque, powerful and very angry bug. All 3 ft of it. And so begins a hideous, nail-biting, comedic, all-action adventure to find a safe haven while constantly outwitting an infestation of monstrous proportions. As Cooper embarks on his journey, he befriends a ragtag group of survivors including Sara, a feisty determined female. Will they make it to safety before they are picked off one by one? And what other surprises are in store for our group of unlikely heroes?
I'm personally tired of and generally ignore the CG monster horror flicks that premiere on the SyFy Channel. I read that this was one of them. Well this one was done great! The jerk hero was actually likable in his purposely annoying way, very funny, and the story happens quickly, so you are in the bug infestation, what the heck is going on, just after the main guys humorful intro.

The other survivors are decent, the story paces along well, no argument lasts too long and no character however annoying, steals the show. There's that used dad-son expectation loss thing but it works well and lots of good natured character humor. The CG was done rather well, even though I still felt it was composited, it was at least fast paced. "Infestation" is a fairly enjoyable and entertaining Sci-Fi Channel Creature Feature.

Awakening from a cocoon imprisonment, Cooper, (Christopher Marquette) and Sarah, (Brooke Nevin) finds themselves among other survivors Cindy, (Kinsey Packard) Hugo, (E. Quincy Sloan) and Albert, (Wesley Thompson) as the only people still alive after an unknown attack from an unknown source. Trying to get a bearing on things, they find that a race of gigantic alien bugs are responsible for attacking them and putting them into the constrictive webbing that they were found in. Determined to fight back and end their presence here, they try to find whatever they can to fight back but manage to keep hitting stumbling blocks along the way, and finally getting back on track, the group encounters the bugs one last time to finally end it once and for all.

The Good News: There's a few really good parts to this one that actually help it quite well. One of the best features is that there's a ton of action scenes within that are incredibly fun and entertaining to go through and make this one an entertaining film. The film begins with the big action scene within the office building, as the general confusion of the situation is played off nicely as the bugs are shown right off the bat chasing and hunting down the cast, something that is a lot of fun and quite creepy due to the layout of the office providing excellent hiding spaces and jump opportunities, plus the hand-to-hand combat against the bugs is a lot of fun. Other good scenes include the first escape attempt, where the bugs swarm down over the group and causing massive damage involving a moving truck and citizens nearby, which is a lot of fun and provides some great action based on that encounter. A swarming scene out in the open, when the bugs attack them at a bridge overpass is another standout scene, gathering a lot of big action scenes and concluding with a big surprise that sets the rest of the film's actions into motion quite nicely. Even more encounters later on, from a series of encounters at houses to scenes in the establishments left after the bugs' conquest, there's no real shortage of action once the film decides to inject them into the frame, giving off a lot of fun moments that are enjoyable all the way around. This one also decides to throw in some rather good parts in the beginning about the confusion over the events, since that would be a common theme in the situation in real-life and this one plays it off exactly like it should be done, with the survivors trying to actually figure out what happened. The different theories are plausible, the rationale is fine and there's definitely a sense that it's something which would be thought of in the situation, and it feels really good. Another plus is the bug's design, which is quite fun and definitely gives them a purpose for being in a horror film, and they're able to do a lot that drives the film's action forward nicely. There's also some nice deaths in here, mainly through stabbing done by the bugs, but a few violent gunshot-riddled bodies and one who is dropped from a great height onto a building then to the ground are a big plus as well. The film's best part is the finale in the hive, which has a lot going for it. One is the incredibly suspenseful nature of it, being in an unfamiliar location and being completely unsure of what's going on or will happen, and it's a fantastic tool to use. The action is fast, fun and furious, getting a lot accomplished in the process and the inherent suspense in the situation is good, making for a great finale to a fun film. These here are all that help this one.

The Bad News: There really isn't a whole lot with this one that doesn't really work. The biggest flaw here is the complete lack of anything regarding knowledge of the bugs. They are a complete mystery in this one, including where they come from, what the purpose is or what they can actually do. This one makes a brief comment about them being extraterrestrial in origin, but that is never confirmed and really only agreed to based on lack of evidence otherwise. It makes sense, but nothing is ever confirmed about them, or what they actually plan to do other than wrap humanity up in cocoons. That is the cause for stopping them in here, nothing about what they plan to do after that, or even how they got their powers. That is merely given in a flashback where we see that they did succumb to something, but that is never expanded upon, and in the end, the bugs are viewed as complete unknowns. The only other flaw in this is the fact that the middle segment is pretty bereft of action scenes, mainly consisting of way too many detours for the group to embark on that could've used that time to better use. The trip to the police station and being caught by the locals there is entirely stupid and serves no purpose, with the action being lame to boot, and the trek down to all the houses results in wasted time. These end up keeping the action down in that segment of the film and hold the momentum down that gathered from the beginning. These here are the film's only real flaws.

The Final Verdict: Not a whole lot really wrong with this one, and it's actually fairly entertaining for what it is, which is certainly a big shock. Really give this one a shot if you're into these kinds of Sci-Fi Channel Creature Features or have an affinity for giant bug movies, while those who aren't should heed caution.
