space pirate trainer + teleporting + powerups
very cool, lots of fun, low replay value though...
hope they add more levels. now theres only one.... This is one of my favorite VR games. I always break a sweat playing it because you have to move around really fast! It's a little on the short side, but it's fun to beat the harder difficulties, and the replay value is pretty high.
EDIT: Lot's of people complain about getting swarmed from every direction. Maybe the tutorial could help, but, I have beaten this on hard. You have to KEEP ON MOVING. Never stay still for too long. Also, use the little staircase area and the area by the billboard. This is still one of my favorite games and I still play it.. Surpringsly fun and addictive. Difficulty scales up quickly but game remains interesting. One of my favorite VR experiences. Can't go wrong for the price, big thumbs up. Incredibly fun and very fast paced!
If you like Space Pirate Trainer, definitely give this a try. The teleportation and weapons are fantastic.
I'd love to see expansions or different environments.. I love the look of this game, I like the basic design of it, it's fun practicing with the weapons in the shooting range, dodging shots, and the cool way the guns can double as melee weapons and have built-in shields. It really feels like I'm going to have a great time.
And then I start the game.
And get hit from behind. Then from above. Then from below. Then from my right-side blind-spot. Then my left-side blind-spot. Sometimes there are a bunch of enemies in front of me which I'd love to shoot, but I quickly learn that if I take the time to line up the shots I'm going to be hit from all other directions. On a few rare occasions I can manage to get the enemies concentrated in a certain direction, and my flanks are safe, so it's time to open up a can of whoop♥♥♥♥♥ but that's when the red moving screens appear and remind me that this game isn't about that.
I beat the game on my first try on Easy, and I'm sure if I practice more I could beat the harder modes, but I'm just not having fun.
Basically, the primary game-mechanic that the designers chose to focus the gameplay on is limited FOV combined with frequent teleports. It's far more important to just keep moving and grabbing power-ups than it is to do anything else. So if you enjoy a game where the challenge is to teleport, quickly glance around and take some shots, then quickly teleport again, then you'll probably enjoy this game.
The final boss battle is the only real time I thought, "Yea, this is good." The rest of the time it was a random spinning spam-fest.. i really love this game, got to play it a while back and its the best VR game i've played yet. the arcade style really fits the game well. i really enjoy the shotgun in the game, its really freaking cool. the teleportation mechanic is enjoyable also.. Extremely enjoyable if you like frantic gameplay. I have a feeling I wouldn't like something so fast paced if it were controlled on a classic keyboard, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it on the Vive. You have to constantly teleport as well as physically move (A tip: don't use the shield too much, it drains the battery quickly, keep teleporting). This was the first game to get me to break a sweat (and that was on normal difficulty), and unlike Space Pirate Trainer, I don't feel like my small play space limits my ability to survive.. At launch, in my opinion, this is the best shooter for room-scale VR with tracked controllers.
The price is incredibly good: compared with the other offerings, I expected this content to be well more expensive.
I love the Matrix-style time-slowing to a crawl, where my normal speed feels lightining-fast!
Love the huge weapons that can also act as shields!
Love the big projectiles destructable at mid air.
And I very much appreciate the tactical choices introduced by the teleporting mechanic.
The room-scale physical movement necessary to avoid the moving grids is also a cool innovation.
There are many cool and innovative ideas for VR shooters with tracked controllers and room-scale: I am sure that several future VR shooters will "borrow" ideas from this game. To me, it is genre defying.
CONS:
The introduction / tutorial are off-putting (but resist through the first 10 minutes and then the gameplay is fun.)
Developer! Come on, let people start directly inside the training-room! (and let the tutorial be an option only after the players fail the training room).
The colors are a bit strange.
The 'easy' level feel quite difficult / frantic, but it makes for good physical exercise, I guess.. The amount of fun i had in the 0.6 hours of playing this game is crazy!
Teleport here shoot the baddies!
Teleport there before the grid hits you!
Watch out! A rocket! Teleport!
Shoot the big baddie!
Green orb things! Teleport! Wait What?!? no more energy?!
shoot shoot shoot! defend yourself!
A battery spawned! Teleport!
AAAAAAHHHHH!!!
What is that?!?
Must play!. Jeeboman:
First Impressions: Jeeboman is a colorful shooter set on the rooftops of an unknown city. The player, presumably Jeeboman must fight off incoming hordes of enemies with an array of weapons.
The Good: This game is addictive. I've beaten it on easy but the other levels are challenging enough to make you want to play them again but not too challenging as to be a Rage Quit game. In addition, all of the weapons are ridiculously balanced. You CAN use a single weapon throughout the game but I find it best to switch when necessary. The teleport mechanic is GREAT and simply works well. The pickup spawning system is really cool and adds survivability to the onslaught on oncoming enemies. The physics are great and some of the best / funniest on the market right now. One shot from a pistol can send enemies bouncing into oblivion at breakneck speeds.
The “Bad”: I put bad in quotation marks because I don’t really have any big problems with this game. However, a few details would make the game so much better. I would love to see more weapons to play around with and a bigger / more inclusive training area. In addition, the rocket tracking isn’t always the best but is okay most of the time. The game modes or limited right now and would like to see another mode implemented soon. Finally, I would like it if the enemies didn't come from directly above you so I can still see them.
Summary (TL;DR) Jeeboman is a fun little shooter that engages and keeps my attention well. For the price ($5 right now) it’s one of the best value games on the market. Seriously, if it’s still this cheap, pick up a copy and try for yourself.
