Two veterans of the Bosnian War, one American, one Serbian, find their unlikely friendship tested when one of them reveals their true intentions.
In 1995, a UN platoon executes a group of Serbian Soldiers. In the present day, in Belgrade, the Serbian Emil Kovac who survived the execution eighteen years before, gets information about his executioner Benjamin Ford and travels to the remote Appalachian Mountain, where Benjamin lives alone, to seek revenge. Emil meets Benjamin in the beginning of a cat-and-mouse game.

I think people were expecting another RED or Expendables, I know its not good to compare movies. I'm not doing that here though.

Guys and Gals, its Travolta and DeNiro! How could that go wrong? It did not!

Oh history is all wrong, I say go watch a documentary. Oh the accent sux, I'd like to see you do better. I think Travolta did alright, and it was passable, I noticed a few slip but I ain't hating.

Okay, I'm not putting this one on a pedestal. It could have been better and maybe it would have done better with another 30mins to an hour. It would have been nice to see them pit some survival techniques against each others circumstances. It did seem a bit rushed at times.

The chemistry with these two is so powerful and explosive. I was entertained from beginning to end, and yes, it was a true joy to watch these two work together. Amazing! DeNiro will never get 'old' and he'll never die! Travolta keeps switching it up and can't be knocked down. These two are legends!

Just to watch these two together I'd come back a few more times. Would I add it, to like, a DVD collection? Its hard to say. I'll answer yes, but I cant say it'll see much action over time. It was a nice treat, but we all know they could have done more and spent more time. I think that was the only thing hurting the ratings. I'd watch it if it was like: The Edge (1997). In terms of surviving and hunting, I'd probably give it a few more spins.

I imagine an extension where both fall into the water and end up even more miles away from civilization, they need to band together to survive and when they get closer to safety they can pick up their 'old war' from there, and boom, still have the same third act.

Because I think the second act was the weakest. Perhaps showing some of Travolta recovery and struggle might have helped. And even DeNiros right after the war. They just didn't tie in the right things in the right places - had to much fun filming in the woods.

Not enough time and effort/vision. I don't know about this movies 'making' process but I've heard others blame the director, so yeah, maybe it was his fault, because the talent was definitely there.

Overall though, I liked the movie. I liked the story and the setting. There's not much to be said but if you are even remotely a fan of either, you should watch it. I don't think it should be skipped.

Bottom line though, if it were played out by 'no-name actors' it might have completely flopped. The story is okay but its kinda lacking in a few ways, the flow seems rushed (not fast-paced, rushed) but in the end, it was enjoyable enough that I decided to leave a review. And I would still recommend it for at least a one-time watch, there's no solid reason to skip this, not when it's these two on screen. As somebody from outside the US I find it usually almost offensive the little care Hollywood has when trying to reflect other countries or cultures. In the past it was already bad that they could not even bother to know the simplest facts about a country before talking about it. But they could say that they couldn't be bothered with all the costs etc. Not a good argument, but an argument at least.

Nowadays all it takes is one visit to the wikipedia and 5 minutes of your life to avoid the idiotic historical blunders they made in this movie.

That they made a movie based on historic situations without spending those 5 minutes is an indication of the incompetence of the producers/directors.

That, and Travolta's impersonation of Borat. What a huge letdown from two of my favorite actors!

As for the movie itself, the quote from Billy Madison's come to mind:

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul." Travolta, who was more believable as a middle-aged housewife in “Hairspray” than he is as a former Serbian commando, has the accent down pat. But his Boris-and-Natasha-style syntax seems to represent Killing Season best. Just imagine that voice saying: Dees ees very seelly movie. Catch on cable TV, please.
