Before this episode, Charizard a fan favorite for many (myself included) disobeyed Ash leading to much annoyance and pain for him and us. But all that changes with this episode. When Ash and his friends start thawing Charizard out, there's a lot of drama and pathos as Ash tries to reconcile with him, recalling moments when he was younger and how Ash never gave up on him despite the hardships he caused. Add in a Team Rocket attack and a great rematch with the 2nd season theme playing afterwards and you've got yourselves a set up for greatness for our intrepid hero Ash and a small foreshadowing of a big battle coming in a few more seasons.....
