About This Game

Once again players will assume the role of Raz, an intrepid young psychic and now fully fledged member of the Psychonauts — an elite group of international psychic secret agents!

The story picks up exactly where it left off at the end of Psychonauts (2005)—with Raz, Lili, Sasha, Milla, and Coach Oleander flying off to rescue Truman Zannotto, the Grand Head of the Psychonauts. Their mission takes them straight into the heart of the Rhombus of Ruin—a mysterious part of the ocean as deadly as two Bermuda Triangles back to back!

A short but fun three hour game, if a bit overpriced. Coming from the first game, I'm surprised that the developers decided to go for a different genre this time [the first game was a standard 3D platformer]. If you like the idea of point-and-click puzzle games, you'll most likely enjoy this. I'd wait for a sale though.. I enjoyed, this ... BUT!

I loved the original Psychonauts. I have been lusting after Psychonauts 2 forever. This game is not that, but it would still have had to try to do much wrong in my book.

That being said, it also wasn't what I was hoping for. This isn't really a full game, more like a teaser to keep me wanting more. It's short, it's simple, it just feels like a little reminder of what I loved without ever actually delivering a real payload.

I would advise playing this, if you have access to a VR set, but keep those expectations low. If you look at it as a small, simple thing, you'll have fun.. As a fan of Psychonauts, I knew I wanted this. Held back on buying for a while because I didn't know how much I was getting (you know how some Vr games can be) Well, once Raz's opening narration began, thats when it REALLY hit me. This is a continuation of the same writing, humor, and story of Psychonauts. And the style is exactly how it should be (now just a bit prettier) That weird creepy imperfect cartoonish stylized design of Psychonauts. I'm fully confident now that Psychonauts 2 will be fantastic. If you love Psychonauts and have a VR headset, there is no reason you shouldn't buy this. You'll be happy you did.

Gameplay:
While this is primarily a seated experience, you do actually explore quite a bit. Multiple enviroments in fact, all of which are full of style color and detail and feel like they belong in the Psychonauts world. The also do a lot of really neat tricks with scale and size when you warp into different minds. If you are fine with it not being a platformer, they do just about everything else they can in VR. They pull out all the tricks, its genuinely fun.

Story:
Yes it has one, and the characters and writing are all the same as you'd remember. That's all I will say to avoid spoilers, because this game is not just some side VR tech demo. There is story here, after you get off the jet (which can take too long. Be patient when you start, its basically the prologue)

Graphics:
Style and details are all perfect, but even with rendering cranked to max its still a bit blurrier than the Vive is capable of. Not pixilated like Fo4VR, but still not really quite perfect. Though if you're fine with how most Unreal Engine games look in VR, this has them all beat. Just a bit blurrier than I prefer. But still made me go "Wow" and giggle like a kid while looking around.
. For fans of Pschonauts it's well worth it but as a stand alone game I would suggest waiting until it's on sale.. Lasts only 2-3 hours, but all of it is great fun and feels like a good old comedy adventure. It's a bit too expensive for its length though, so I'd recommend picking it from sale.. I never wrote a review before but for this really fun and creative game I will.
A lot of effort went into this gem and it's well worth buying.
I hope this company will make more VR games soon.. I loved the original psychonauts. Really want to like this. Doesn't work at all for me right now -- just a black screen with "Outside Game Area" despite being in the middle of my play area. Hopefully devs fix this quickly, will gladly update the review once I can play.. Someone gave this to me as a gift, and being a fan of Psychonauts I was incredibly excited.

The game was incredibly fun...but was basically a puzzle game on rails, definitely not what I expected. I also was disappointed by the length of the game. From start to finish in less than 2 hours.

I definitely recommend the game, especially if you're a fan of Psychonauts already, but for 2 hours of gameplay wait until it's on sale.. I love Psychonauts and am greatly looking forward to Psychonauts 2. I like the concept they've created of a VR point-and-click and using Clairvoyance instead of teleporting! Generally I think this is a cute, short game that has great voice acting and all your favourite characters, but a couple of issues prevent me from recommending it.

My main issue is that the game causes me vertigo in (at least) the menu sequence, opening credits, underwater sequence, and in the plane if you clairvoyance into the squirrel (I think? I can't remember what it is now - the animal up there). I've not actually completed the game yet, mainly because of that. I've been playing other games that don't make me feel ill.

Also, it's a little bit of an unpolished experience - I had to restart it a couple of times for reasons I've now forgotten and getting my seat exactly where the game was expecting me to be was a little tedious. The controls can be a little clunky and imperfectly explained during the tutorial.

I'd say get it if you're a fan of Psychonauts and point-and-click adventures, but if you're prone to feeling ill when you don't have a virtual ground beneath your virtual feet, vertigo or afraid of heights, probably leave it alone.. Another great moment playing a Double Fine productions. They nailed it with this first VR game. The Psychonauts universe really made sense for this trip into people's mind. You will find all the details that made the first game so exciting: the powers, the humor, the smart ideas, some puzzles and a great music. There is a real story connected to the first game. It is actually nice that you don't really have to move in the environment but just enter minds.
If you liked Psychonauts, don't hesitate and join Raz and the team for this great adventure.
