Motorcycle mechanic C.C. Ryder joins "The Heads," an outlaw biker gang. Fellow gang members menace fashion journalist Ann when her limo breaks down in the desert, but C.C. comes to her rescue. The bikers disrupt a motorcross event tied in with a fashion shoot, but C.C. enters the competition under Ann's admiring eye. His win puts him at odds with Moon, leader of "The Heads." When C.C. leaves with his cut of the purse, the bikers kidnap Ann, and C.C. races Moon to win her freedom.
I can't say the movie is bad, but I can't say it's good either. Pretty obvious that Hollywood Joe is not used to riding a Harley. Looks like he's afraid of falling off when he starts off. Stunt double riding a dirt bike was about 8 inches shorter than Joe. I have always liked the grocery store scene. I wonder how many have done something similar. Having lived around Tucson, I liked seeing the city as it was a few years back. The outdoor scenes were filmed south of Arivaca. I think the one place is called Javelina dam. I've been there more than a few times. No more white picket fence at U of A stadium though.. I'd watch it again. I like the bikes.
While Joe Namath was likeable in his role, William Smith, who made a living mostly playing "bad guys" in many B pictures, gave the best performance in this movie. Smith looked like a biker, unlike Namath. He was nasty, grizzled, and mean. Just what you would expect from a "Hells Angel." With an R rating it would have been nice to see a little more skin (especially on a young Ann Margret) but the movie is worth seeing anyway.
