ReBoot: TGC follows the journey of four teenagers, Austin, Parker, Tamra, and Trey. On their first day at Alan Turning High, these unsuspecting teens discover they've been preselected to become the Next-Generation Guardians of Cyberspace with a mission to save the world - by defending it in cyberspace. With the help of VERA, an artificial intelligence bio-constructed as a teenage girl, ReBoot: TGC's heroes digitize into cyberspace where they use their code-based powers to combat viruses unleashed by a merciless hacker. Known only as the 'Sourcerer', this devious hacker seeks to rule the world by controlling cyberspace, and it's up to the Guardians to stop him.
I'll be honest, when this show popped up on Netflix, my heart did a little flip in my chest. "Reboot" was the very first show I ever fell in love with. I have all the seasons, and I still watch them to this day. Back in 2001, it ended on a cliffhanger, and for the last 17 years I have been hoping in the secret depths of my heart that someday they would resolve it. For a moment I let myself hope that this was going to be the epic conclusion that I have been waiting for.

My friends, I am beyond disappointed. "Reboot" was a story about little people who lived inside your computer and defended their homes from the users who caused games to descend on their community. If they didn't beat the user and win the game, they would be killed. Meanwhile, the main character also battled viruses who wanted to destroy Mainframe.

Sure, it was campy, and because it was the very first television series done entirely in computer graphics (1994), the graphics could be pretty terrible during the first season. However, they rapidly improved, and so did the story telling. It became a beautiful and wondrous thing (in my very strong opinion). The bad guys were also layered and incredibly interesting characters with a real sense of menace that offset the campiness of the good guys.

This new version has nothing good from the original series. It is basically Power Rangers meets Code Lyoko. Teenagers from our world are transported into the computer where they battle an updated (and terribly designed) Megabyte, who isn't even the main villian, but just a pawn of a very human hacker (named Sourcerer, of all things). Megabyte looked much better in the original 90's graphics. The other original characters only show up in the last episode of the season, but they look like they did in the first season, and all of the storytelling from the last three seasons were just dropped without explanation.

I still watched all ten episodes, and they were decent for a kid show about kids in cyberspace, but it wasn't Reboot. Even so, I still hold out hope that the true "Reboot" reboot that I want will eventually be made. (That's actually the only reason I watched all of the episodes. I was hoping that by showing interest they would be willing to make something different in the Reboot franchise.)

My childhood has been stomped on.

Frankly, the idea that all of the "Reboot" fans are older men living in their parents' basement is a bit insulting as well. They obviously don't understand the appeal of the original series and why so many of us still love it. Bob is, and always will be, my favorite. I loved Reboot as a kid. I would've loved this as a teen. Unfortunately as an adult it's hard to stomach.

Pretty loosely tied to the original series, so a lot of the magic of the original series is missing here. Instead this feels like TRON but aimed at a young audience. Nothing very original here.

The CGI's not the best in the world, but it's watchable. The script and acting isn't half bad either. I honestly expected it to be a lot worse.
