My friend loves to watch me play this game in vr and on desktop.. Finally a game that runs on a potato VR or not. Introducing the in-game magazine, Model Rolling Line! - v1.099 : Todays update is a very special one! Have you ever read a model train magazine (*cough* Model Railroader *cough*) and wondered what it would be like if Rolling Line had something like that? Well I've spent the last couple of weeks working on exactly that! This magazine can be viewed in-game (both on PC and in VR) plus you can also read it online on the Gaugepunk Games website. [www.gaugepunk.com] This isn't the only one though! I'll be making new issues of this magazine alongside major updates, and in future issues I'll try to include some community-made articles. These magazines do take a ton of work to make though, so there will be quite large gaps (1-2 months) between making new ones. in fact you can even subscribe to get an email when a new issue is released! (just like a real magazine, but free). Simply send an email to subscribegaugepunk.com to get signed up automatically. This update is a little different to the usual, but what other train game has it's own in-game magazine? Enjoy! There's also a few other fixes and features in this update: Custom liveries that are not owned are instead replaced by the corresponding wagon from the base game (instead of an empty white wagon). e.g. a DX loco is replaced by a random color variant of the usual New Zealand DX. Fixed collision on the flat ground pieces, they should be much easier to use now. Added a couple of new basic shapes, a curved wall and a flat plank.. Custom table improvements - v 1.095 : This update adds a ton of improvements, features and bug fixes surrounding custom tables! There's heaps of stuff in this update, so here's the full list: Added a new "wooden" style of table! you can use the painters in the table draw to change the style of tables. There is now a "table snap to grid" option, which makes table segments follow a grid when being placed freely. Added new smaller table pieces. You can now hold Shift (on PC) while using a painter to paint all props in a radius. When used on track it will paint all connected track within a set distance. Added a coffee mug prop. Tables now copy height & scale when snapping onto another table. Collision on tables is now much better. Flickering shadows on PC are now fixed! Fixed bug where the in-train-controller wouldn't show up when switching to miniature. Switchboards are now hidden in the distance. The custom table switchboard is now properly hidden. Fixed issues with the "edit table" toggle not working correctly. table segments have their position saved correctly (the values use to round up/down which would result in slight misalignment). Added a base to the large rock prop mesh. There's lots of interesting stuff coming in the next few updates, along with other features being added to custom tables along the way.. Movement smoothing - v1.05 : New: Old: Today's update makes some great changes to the wagon movement system. Movement is now much, much smoother. The jittering should be completely non-existent (ON THE MAIN LAYOUT). You will still see some jumps in movement on custom track though, but this is actually caused by the track itself, and needs an entirely different fix. There are also many behind-the-scenes improvements to help fix wagon merging! If you were previously experiencing lots of merging then this update should hopefully vastly improve this (please let me know if you still run into problems). Here are some other smaller changes: - Use trackpad/joy up/down in VR while placing track to change height. - All scroll wheel controls can now be done using pageUp/pageDown (e.g.. Custom 3D terrain modding! - v1.16 : Today's update adds something pretty special! you can now import your own 3D models to be used as terrain, much like how the QuickMod locomotives work. You can use real-world height data, hand-made terrain or pretty much anything with this new system. You can even now make maps with the same level of terrain complexity as the main layout & Santa Fe (which were made in the same way!) If you want to create your own terrain, make sure you have the "-quickMod" launch tag, then place your .OBJ model files in the "Rolling Line/Modding/quickTerrain/[your custom folder]" folder (use the example terrain as a guide). You can have a look at an example of what you can do with the new terrain with this map made using real height data on the Steam workshop Along with the QuickTerrain feature, this update also includes: Ability to export track & scenery of your layout to an OBJ 3D model. You can find these options in the quickMod drawer. This is really useful for designing terrain around track! (these files are exported to "Rolling Line/Modding/Export". QuickMod now has options for "soundPreset" and "hornPreset" which you can use to set the locomotive sound effects and horn/whistle effect respectively. Boats on the main layout are fixed (after being broken on the previous update) Go over to to upload your terrain mods, and download other peoples creations.. Basic track gradients - v 1.043 : Here's a simple implementation of gradient track! At the moment this is just a PC only feature (not in VR) that allows you to change the height angle of track using the mouse scroll wheel (while placing track). This is only a quick implementation, and at a later date I will create proper curved gradient track pieces and support this feature fully. Though as people seem very keen for even just a simple implementation like this, I decided to quickly add this to the game.. Transparent painters, prop rotation and more - v1.081 : Today's update adds a range of small features, namely a new set of painters that allow you to make props transparent! Use the two new painters to change between solid color & transparent, then combine with any other color. You can use this to make a bunch of neat stuff, like see-through water and misty clouds: The other two major features of this update are: Context-sensitive help text, which shows PC key controls (this can be disabled in the "misc" menu). You can now also rotate props on all axes using some debug controls. You need to enable "advanced controls" under the "misc" menu for this to be an option! once you have, you can rotate props dynamically using the numpad. Here is a full list of what else is included in this update: Changing your height on PC with the scroll wheel is now much more accurate and has a larger height range. There are now options for switching between toggle & hold for the shift and control keys. Props in your hand will now highlight if shift is held (this means a copy of the prop will be kept in your hand after placing). Points now default to straight instead of curved. Fixed bug with painting track styles that would make a tunnel show up. Fixed issue where you would push objects around if your head got too close on PC. Custom tables are underway! This is my main focus at the moment. Expect the beginnings of custom tables to be included in an update in the next few weeks.. F7 & streamliner liveries - v1.154 : Custom liveries for all of the new trains added in the Santa Fe update are now available! This includes the F7, F7 B unit, and all 4 streamline passenger cars. You can already find a ton of liveries people have made on the Steam Workshop! This update also includes a few small features and fixes: Snapping added to a range of props, like the hedges & fences from the Santa Fe update, as well as several older metal fences already in the game The height-cap on PC has been removed, so you can go as high as you want using the scroll-wheel Fixed issue with the "pause time" menu button option not working properly Fixed issue with selecting high up props to edit There is also another little something I'm working on, which is a "quickMod" system, which lets you add your own trains into the game (with custom 3D models). This system is very much in-development at the moment, but people are already making tons of amazing mods over at RollingLineModding.com! [rollinglinemodding.com] The next update will hopefully be something special for Christmas, followed by some brand new NZR (New Zealand Rail) content in January! Enjoy!. Custom tables! - v 1.091 : Today's update finally adds custom table building to the game! You can now build your own tables of essentially any size, and upload them to the Steam workshop. Choose "custom table" as your map when starting a new game to use the new table features! Use the "snap to angle" option in the custom track menu to lock tables to 90 degree angles, and use the "table snapping" option to set whether tables snap together or are freely placed. This is only the first release of custom tables, and there are still many features I'll be adding over the next few weeks (e.g. custom item drawer locations, custom switch boards, more table pieces, etc). Here are a few other features also included in this update: Liveries are now automatically given the correct wagon type tags to help organize the Steam workshop. Overly large and small props are now scaled to fit in your hand when being held (e.g. large props like the ferry are scaled down when picked up). The most recent save (used for the "resume" and "quicksave" buttons) is now set correctly. Added distance LOD to rubbish bins and drawers.. Rolling line poster : For each of my games I love to make an 'official' A3 poster to put on my wall, and since we are so close to Rolling Lines release I just got this one printed! Less than 3 weeks to go until release!
