Ajay Singh and his family own and operate "Rajri" a clothing emporium in South Bombay. Ajay is a fan of ghazal singer, Gulfam Hussain, and is thrilled to actually meet him during one of his performances. During this performance, he meets with Seema, and both fall in love. Seema is introduced to Ajay's family, and they unanimously approve of her. What Seema does not know is that Ajay is acutally Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ajay Singh Rathod, who has been assigned the task of apprehending a group of terrorists, that are being sheltered and protected by corrupt parliamentary representatives, with arms being supplied by Pakistan. Ajay does not know that the trail which he is following will lead him to Rajasthan, right into the house of the person who runs this operation - a person who is known to him.
Ajay Singh is a student pursing his studies in the Medical field. His life takes a drastic turn when he witness the assassination of his brother with his father getting gravely injured in the process by terrorists. Ajay quit his studies and takes an enrollment into the police force as Assistant Commissioner of Police with a motive of bringing the killers of his brother to justice.
Am writing a review for this movie after many years of it release but its never late.

I have watched this movie more than 50 times now and it still entertains me in the same way. And i bet you won't be disappointed also.

Aamir does a superb job of portraying the character of ACP. Not to forget the role of Saleem and his side kicks. Sonali looks as pretty as ever. She supports the character well.

The songs are also nice and soothing.

Overall a must watch for all aamir fans.

I rate it 10/10 even after 8 years of its release and watching it uncountable times. this is a real gem of a movie...it's right there among the top 5 of my favorite Hindi movies. the movie hooks you right away and the plot never slackens throughout...coupled with realistic treatment, it makes the movie an instant favorite. also the subject is very different - the proxy war waged by Pakistan's ISI. refreshingly and reassuringly, there are no corrupt cops in the movie! Aamir Khan as ACP Rathore is superb. he brings alive a cop's passion and determination to cleanse the system of criminals. the action sequences are played out very realistically. Mukesh Rishi as ACP's right hand man is just brilliant! This actor usually plays only "black" characters - this surely added to the impact of his performance (for me, at least). There are some truly heart-warming scenes of Rathore with his family. Sonali Bendre as Rathore's love interest provided some (much-needed) light moments. And, finally, Naseeruddin Shah as ghazal singer-cum-terrorist played his part with understated villainy. i love such villains - they seem so real! the climax is truly innovative - it invariably brings a smile to your face. It's difficult to spot a flaw in the movie. and considering that it's the director's debut film, you have to doff your hat to him.
