Disclaimer: Even though I do not have many hours on the current build, I was a beta tester for SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest with over 50 hours put into it which can be confirmed by the gameu2019s credits. SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest aimed to improve the base which SpellForce 3 had established and this time, they delivered. The gameplay feels better, fresher and most importantly, itu2019s a lot of fun u2013 all of which made me really enjoy it and gave me that good old SpellForce feeling that Iu2019ve been missing for so long. t The campaign delivers a solid and well-polished 20-hour narrative which does a good job of balancing RPG and RTS u2013 the two big trademarks of the series and at only 25 Euro at release (15 if you own SpellForce 3!), SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest is definitely a game that is worth its price and that Iu2019d recommend everyone to put into their gaming library! Ratings (out of 10): Gameplay: 8.3 Story: 8.9 Visuals: 9 Sound: 9.6 Replay Value: 7.5 Final Verdict: 8.66. I can highly recommend this game. It is by far better than Spellforce 3. But also get Spellforce 3 because all those new mechanics are coming to Spellforce 3 too.. Hate the controls. I have played the first Spellforce 3 when it first came out, enjoying every aspect of it, despite the bugs, when I first heard that they would be revamping both the gameplay and the factions themselves, I waited with cautious optimism, partly worried that it might kill the game for me. However, I was glad to see that there was no need, the game is an improvement in nearly every way over the first Spellforce 3 - Faction revamps, making them more unique and giving them each a specific playstyle. - The new factions, with the Dark Elves being a new favourite. - The Gameplay revamp, with the resource system being streamlined. - The new story from what I have played so far, does not disappoint. - The Mercenaries Mechanic, allowing you to create a custom character of 3 races and any class combo you wish (hopefully they will add the Morhir Elves and Orcs as races), with great potential to be used in the future.. Pretty good so far but it still has a lot of minor issues sadly holding it back a lot in both campaign and coop. Everything is very flimsy to target, you can basically not tell if you clicked something to attack, there is very little and very tiny cursor feedback. Even crazier on the first Boss totems, which have no cursor change and a super tiny click hitbox. Its also hard to see if the units actively attack something and there is no feedback if they just issues a new attack command. The unit animations are also very slow and non-exagerrated making this even worse. Its also very hard to see the commander or what you have selected, and the units blend into the environment very easily and are very hard to make out. The ability feedback is also very bad, you get no feedback for clicking or activating something over the button and there is also no indicator for something being triggered over the ALT menu, there is cruxial button states missing making both feel very bad and confusing to use. F1-F9 are also horrible buttons, (im a guy using 25 hotkeys in wow but F buttons are just bad and I mess it up all the time) how is 1-9 not used? It is also not required to have a giant bar active all the time on top, that should scale based on abilities. In campaign, It is a bit crazy how you get instantly thrown into a 4 man party in solo without a pause button, Im pretty good at micro but either Im undergeared or the game is very hard. I had to turn back from hard mode as it was insanely brutal and the first boss requires micro and reactions akin to an average ARPG (dodging AOE attacks and melee attacks in 1-2s timeframes) but for 4 characters at the same time, with one spin attack dealing 30% health damage of all units in range, which seemed to be balanced crazy clutch around a real pause+command move mode but there is none, and the normal mobs are mental on hard also. In campaign you also get buried with talent points which is very tedious at the start. Don't let me level up 4 characters 3 times over one mission, that just makes it tedious and little meaningful. Having 4x2 talent trees to read right in the second mission is also a bit crazy, how does this not ramp up 1-2-3-4-5 over time? Managing 5 characters right after the first boss is something I doubt any average player can manage or comprehend reasonably. The heroes also don't stand out without the extra setting at all. Generally the game could be and feel a lot better if there were a global pass over audiovisual feedback especially on attacks, abilities, selections and unit commands as this makes everything feel very mushy, very hard to read and make out units, attacks and commands (so everything that is at importance) and very unresponsive right now, otherwise this is a good game with great aesthetics, voice acting and surprising depth (although items in PVP are too bland), 5 races is also very impressive and I do appreaciate the rework of the HUD as well which is much sleeker now but please fix the command and ability feedback.. Let it be known that once they fix the problems i will redo this review but for the time being i can not recommend this standalone DLC. Rather than bringing over the updates and tweaks they made to base Spellforce 3 they decided to completely redo just about everything from gear attributes, health, damage, skills,etc. These changes would be fine if they were properly balanced but this was not the case hence my tank getting 2 shotted by an enemies generic hero class not even a boss. They also did away with the plentiful characters that accompany you along the way which i really enjoyed in the base game and was in fact sad i couldnt bring more than 4 companions. Instead they give you a Mercenary system which is supposed to help with the Co-op of the game which i get but those characters are given really generic voice lines and are in the end super uninteresting. The races are alot different from what we are used to which is somewhat nice and i quite enjoy the Dwarves but the night elves are quite painful to play. In the end i want this to become a game worthy of a recommendation but as of right now i can not and the only thing keeping me from telling people not to bother is the cheap price.. as of right now i would not recommend it. this is because you cant save the game. got two hours in and lost it all cuz everytime i hit save game. it would say saveing failed. so until this is fixed dont waste your money like i did it will only cause you more pain having to redo unliked missions.. SpellForce 3: Soul Harvest contains a lot of content for the asking price. The game plays and looks very good. The campaign draws you in with a very good story and keeps you playing to see what happens next. The changes to the game mechanics seem to make it more simplified than the previous version, but surprisingly works well. I have yet to find any problems with this release, and given the asking price is definitely well worth the purchase.. So much better than the original Spellforce 3 and definitely worth picking up for the surprisingly low price.. HOT FIX. DID NOT HELPED. GPU temp while playing SPELLFORCE 3 - 60 C*mid. 64 C* Max GPU temp while playing SPELLFORCE 3 SOUL HRAVEST - 70 C*mid. 74 C* Max Im on water cool, so even when i am playing DIEHARD graphical games like Crysis 4 or eve HITMAN 2 - max gpu temp - 58-60 C*. I declare spellforce 3 soul harvest is far to be opimized till be playable on ALL max settings.
