When Danny buys a ramshackle country cottage which he plans to renovate he is surprised by the fact that local squire Rupert Hathaway is desperate to buy it from him and will resort to violence when Danny refuses to sell. A woman called Lucy comes to see Danny. She is a member of the Fraud Squad, investigating the death of a colleague whom she believes was killed by Hathaway. The squire is at the centre of some highly illegal goings-on to which the cottage is crucial and Lucy seeks Danny's help in bringing him to justice.
Danny is the happy owner of the infamous "Meadow Cottage", a derelict and abandoned country house that is right in the middle of a property that belongs to the arrogant squire, Rupert Hathaway. With the intention to settle in and start a little ranch, Danny excited, he begins the renovation without knowing that in a house that the locals avoid it as it has a reputation of being haunted, a Detective Inspector of the Sussex County Constabulary was killed recently. When voodoo dolls and strange incidents start to occur, it will be quite evident that Danny is indeed in his neighbour's way, but with the help of Brett and an enigmatic birdwatcher, the team will leave no room for intimidation.
In one of the better "Persuaders" episodes, Danny buys a fixer-upper house in the English countryside.

Though a multi-millionaire who fought his way to success from the New York streets (sort of like Curtis himself), Danny prefers not to have a ready-made estate with hundreds of acres of rolling countryside. He opts for a broken-down, "Green Acres" shack which he intends to fix up himself.

Unfortunately, he runs into a few obstacles. A mysterious Squire whose henchmen are intent on beating him up. Words like "FOREIGNER" painted on his walls. A possible coven. And, most mysteriously of all, a body in his well.

Naturally, a pretty girl is involved ("The Persuaders" rarely had extremely beautiful women guests, but they were all the sort of females Brett and Danny could pal around with). She and Brett really discover the key to the mysteries of Danny's cottage, in a story with a nice double-switch at the end.
