The A-team goes to the Amazon Jungle in Peru, to rescue Tawnia's fiancé from a river pirate called "El Cajon" who scares everybody off for the shady Doyle.
Deep in Peru where a tributary of the Amazon bends, a pirate outfit lead by the treacherous El Cajon ('the Coffin') who hides a double gun in his wooden leg, is hired by the gangster Doyle to keep both Amazonian Indians (whom they scare) and all strangers (whom they rob and kidnap of kill) out. When they thus cause the disappearance of Dr. Brian Lefcourt, who practiced Archeology there but owns several newspapers and is engaged with reporter Tawnia Baker, she sends in the A-team, who find it poetical the masquerade as a coffin's escort after springing Murdock -who now claims to be directing 'the' movie- from the lunatic asylum in that very coffin.
THE BEND IN THE RIVER: PART 1 is the first half of a two-hour A-Team special that came at the beginning of season three. It picks up considerably from the lackluster first episode, with the foreign locale adding to the exoticism and plenty of well-established fun from the characters. I'm not sure how the old gag involving Mr. T's hatred of planes keeps on working but somehow it does. The story features larger than life characters, familiar faces, and a palpable sense of menace.

Unlike the first 2 seasons, Universal decided to use the master of the German TV versions for the release of the third season box-set. Unfortunately, these versions are sometimes censored and also offer have an inferior image quality. Nearly six minutes are missing.
