I really enjoy this route though the ride is slow-the engine is interesting to drive and the ability of passangers to signal their wish to stop is fun. The scenery is great.. Bought it right after release. To begin with: I'm normally more into north american freight operations or freight trains on german lines, however after really enjoying the previous product (Albula Line) I was curious to get this route.
Even though the route is small (25 km lenght) it takes an hour to drive and the landscape is just amazing. The developers really managed to capture the impressive sight of the alps with the train track against the slope of the mountains. The level of details is stunning as well, there are so many custom made buildings, small villages etc. It looks really really nice and makes you feel like you're traversing that region. That's the level of detail I'd expect from a good old model railway at home.
Driving the route is fun as well, the train handles well and the signaling system does its job. Nothing too complex and even downhill the trains are manageable. Soundwise I'm also very happy, especially the "singing" of the train when going through curves.
Any cons? yes! Unfortunately the world seems dead. Despite some people waiting at the train stations there's no life. Especially at the beginning of the route, there's a section taking you through the city of Chur. There are only static cars\/busses, nothing moving, no pedestrians etc. Later on during your ascend, you get to some crossings with no cars moving along the road. At one crossing there's a tractor waiting for you to pass, but the driver seems to be very patient as he sits there no matter if its summer or winter, day or night. Other routes (sacramento nothern) manage to have cars on the road during street running scenarios and the cars even obey the crossings \/ traffic signs. That's something defenity lacking on this route! Also there are some places you drive by, for example a farm house thats on one side of the track with no way whatsoever to reach it. No road leading up to it, nothing, just a house sorrounded by trees and cornered in by tracks.
In general the route is amazingly detailed, fun to drive and I would recommend it to anynone looking for a change, something new. If you liked the Albula-Line, then this route will satisfy you as well!
How long will the fun last? As the possibilities on this route are very limited (limited freight hauling, no different locomotives \/ rolling stock) I doubt this route will keep me occupied for long.. Wonderful. Absolutely superb. I only hope that in the future, more historic equipment may become available for these lines. Some older 4\/6 and 6\/6 motive power would be incredibly fun to drive.. Nice, but for me personally is too boring.. A beatiful and stunning Swiss narrow gauge route.
Fun and challenging to drive, twists and turns and a lot of beatiful scenery.
The EMU Allegra ABe 8\/12 is very well depicted with a stunning interior and passenger view.
The train succeeds in climbing more than 1000 metres in just 26 kilometres \u2013 something that not even a mountain goat can manage!
A route I can recommend for everyone.. I recommend this train. Love it !!!!. I could not resist to buy this route right away ... The Arosa line is an absolute top attraction in the Alpes. Thomson Interactive did a good job. The route has a number of innovative features. The Langwieser viaduct is illuminated in Winter. The city track is a nice addition as well, though not unique. The request stops and the accurate signalling are nice, but the only real reason to buy the route is to enjoy the landscape.
The cruise control makes drving simple, especially up mountain. There a re a few sunting possibilities, but with only one EMU and no freight locos this is very limited. Also Chur railway station is modeled very sketchy, so no normal gauge trains pasisng by and no Glacier express interactions. I think this is a missed opportunity.
If you love Swiss mountains and already own the Albula line, this is a good addition, but altogether the Albula is more playing fun into my opinion.. Nice route, smart control system, runs very well on my system which struggles with some other denser routes, yet still looks pretty. Single "train" is a bit limited, however realistic, with a small selection of freight cars. different weather also looks fantastic. Thomson interactive have done it again!. It's a nice but short route with a good looking train and kind of unique operations (freight operations using an EMU).
It's a single track branch line, which, after leaving the starting point at Chur, constantly climbs steep grades up to Arosa. Be aware that the maximum speed of the line is 35 km\/h. Most of the time, your train will be running at slower speeds (33 km\/h, 30 km\/h and in the city of Chur 20 km\/h), though. So if you like fast train operations, this route might be disappointing. It comes with a unique signalling system, which is pretty easy once you get the hang of it (just look into the manual, all is explained very well). The city of Chur, where your train is running literally on the streets of the town, is quite detailed, although I found the scenarios to be a bit lifeless. Some more people on the streets would help to make it feel much more alive (you can do it for yourself in the editor of course). They advertize all the bridge and tunnel models they have done for this route and indeed, it helps quite a lot to make it look special in a lot of places. The tracks look pretty good, unfortunately the winter version is a bit, well, snowless... Feels a bit like the track was laied after the snow has fallen. I found this to be much better at the Semmering Bahn for example, where the sleepers are actually covered with snow.
The train itself is done in a quite solid way. You can choose between several preset destinations in the cab, which will be displayed at the outside of the train then (they also include destinations from the Albula line and some other lines of the RhB). Unfortunately the wiper only comes in ON or OFF positions, so no occasionally wiping. There are some windows in the cab which can be opened and the sun visor can be lowered. You have several different options to set your front and rear lights, including the single light for shunting services. The request stop feature works well, but to be honest, it's nothing too special. It would have been cool, if Thomson Interactive would have made a train announcement system similiar to their Trent Valley line. I haven't experienced the real train yet, but I like the sounds it makes in the game. Compared to some youtube videos, it seems quite accurately done.
