It is the distant future, Supernatural creatures are controlling the small civilizations left on Earth. A beautiful young woman, Doris, has been bitten by Count Magnus Lee for trespassing in his domain while hunting for demons threatening her home. Fearing that her life will be controlled by the Count, Doris hires and offers herself to a man known only as "D", a vampire hunter with a dark past, to hunt down and destroy the Count, end his thirst, and save Doris from a life of eternal damnation.
A young girl requests the help of a vampire hunter to kill the vampire who has bitten her, and thus prevent her from becoming a vampire herself.
This was one of the first Asian animation films I ever saw and really caugth my attention at the time and as such remains one of my personal favourites despite a few faults.

Not as epic as the likes of Akira, Vampire Hunter D is none the less a fine piece of animation with an interesting post-apocalyptic setting that takes it's cues from Dracula, Frankenstein etc rather than the cyberpunk of William Gibson et al. 'D' is a very interesting character and an easy comparison is a character such as Blade. Dark brooding and with plenty of past history D wanders the country fighting for good against a tide of evil including vampires and werewolves.

There's plenty of action and blood although the plot loses its way at times it remains good fun throughout. As with most anime the English voice characterisations are not the best at times and probably original language with subtitles is the best bet.

Vampire killing fun 7/10 It was an interesting movie. The animation was imaginative, but seemed kind of crude. The plot is a girl is bitten by a vampire and hires a hunter to kill the vampire that bit her and "cure" her. The hunter was interesting sort of an anime Blade. (Blade predated this, although I would not consider this a rip off) I think I saw an edited version of the film because a lot of things did not make any sense (what was up with his hand?). Also the plot seemed to jump around a bit. The story never was boring but seemed to have all of the Vampire clichés in it.
