After Hollywood Visionary, this was kind of disappointing. I felt like my choices had no bearing, which is a shame given the nature of the game. Non-spoiler example:

"Will you fight this battle for us?"
I choose "No thanks."

This♥♥♥♥♥♥happened like four times.. Hello and thanks for reading my review. I have been a fan of ‘choose your own adventure’ since the early 1980s when there was little else to do but watch all 3 channels on TV, listen to the radio or play Atari. For those who don’t know there is a whole line of ‘choose your own adventure’ books out there and can be enjoyed again and again just like this game! There is more than one story and more than one way to win – but then again there is more than one way to fail and lose. BUT that is the fun of it! Finding out what was around that corner or behind that door you didn’t try to open the first time. I bought a whole set of books for my oldest son for Christmas the year he turned 9 just as I was when I first discovered them. He now has his own Steam account and has played this game and loves it just as much as I did.

I give the game a 10 out of 10 for reminding me that it’s not about graphics or physics, sound and musical score or what high priced actor lent their phoned in talent to the game play. It is about the vision and creativity of the author and I thank everyone involved for bringing this vision to life and sharing it with all of us.
. After purchasing the game on a whim during the sale, I have to say it is a pleasant break from my usually competitive FPS or RTS. It's like reading a book in which you can make your own choices. It has a wide variety of choices and seems to have at least 4 possible endings maybe more. It is worth a few play-trough’s to explore the options. It is an interactive novel so no expensive graphics or sound effects. All in all I’d give it an 8/10. Some choices you make can go "unnoticed" if certain choices are made after. If you enjoy reading and have a thing for pirates I would recommend it, and for only $5(3 during the sale) it’s worth it.. I'm vastly disappointed at the fact that I didn't get to bang Evan Lark (I REALLY wanted to, he is my type of man, he bakes scones, omg), aside of that, it was a great CoG title.

Rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle/10. Very engaging and fun, some interesting stories behind it as well.. *Shoots his captain point - blank in his face for no reason whatsoever*. Aside from generic high fantasy and superheroes, pirates seems to be a popular genre for CYOA works from Choice of Games. Several of their offerings already explore life and on the high seas. Not to disparage the other fine offerings already on hand but I hold the opinion that Choice of the Pirate is the best one of them yet.

For one, it presents a wide scope in the narrative with a meaningful choice between civilization and freedom. Neither side is shown to be an absolute good but rather present different views on what people value in life. It also has a strong Carribean feel with native magic being intrinsically tied to nature. The set pieces are fun, especially as you meet creatures like merfolk, sea monsters and ghost ships.

Overall it is well-written and a fun romp. Each playthrough takes approximately 40 minutes which is decent for a CoG title so no fear of a truncated game either. I won't lie, the previous two offerings from CoG did not impress me much. Heroes: Redemption was basically the author strongarming the reader into listening and playing along with the author's political views while Sea Eternal was kinda meh. Choice of Pirates on the other hand is a strong offering that ranks alongside some of their best works.. Very fun CYOA game. The choices and the charcters are well developed. You can feel yourself get pulled into the story and really consider each choice before pulling the trigger. The only downside is I thought it was a tad short, but for 3$, it is well worth the price.
