The series tells the story of the aftermath of a global invasion by several races of extraterrestrials that neutralizes the world's power grid and technology, quickly destroys the combined militaries of all the world's countries, and apparently kills over 90% of the human population within a few days.
Survivors of an alien attack on earth gather together to fight for their lives and fight back.
Well I just watched the first 2 hours premier of the show, and well, it's really nothing that hadn't been done so many times before.

So aliens had invaded, and the resistance of the United States are a few migrating regiments of soldiers and civilians; most of their time was spent scrounging for food and weapons.

You get the occasional firefight with the aliens and the standard human bandits. And of course there is the rising tension between the military and civilians. Sounds very familiar doesn't it? Like Battlestar Galactica or Stargate Universe? And these shows were pretty recent, so why copy their premises?

And you get the same cliché characters: the hard-ass group commander, the father looking for a lost son, the hot tough chick that can fire a gun, the tough guy outlaw that knows more about fighting the aliens than the soldiers, the pretty doctor that stands up for the civilians. A big yawn. While I was watching, I could literally predict what was going to happen next. And I found it hard to care about these characters at all. Is it really so hard to do something a little more original?

Anyway, they did introduce some mysteries about the aliens that they will develop as the series continue: like why are the aliens here, why are they taking kids, etc. But I don't expect these questions to be compelling until maybe the fourth or fifth episode (if ever), and by then I think they will lose a majority of the audience, except the hardcore Sci Fi fans. I just watched the two first episodes. The plot appeared to be well thought, but the two first episodes are very confusing. Some things about the aliens where thought only to help the history, and that spoils the plot. That they only find people that amounts to 600, and so they are divided in groups of 300. They have the technology to wipe all electronic in the planet and then they only find people if they amount to 600?!?!?!? the relationship between civilians and militia imitate others series and films, first the militia and then the civilians... Other thing already seen is the way that aliens control the children, where they out of ideas?!?! I only saw the two first episodes, i hope the next ones improve both on the storyline and on the interaction between actors.

This is a question that was asked by characters on the show before the introduction of the Overlords, but no definitive answer has been given. The Mechs are Overlord technology, and the Overlords have two arms and two legs. The Skitters are slaves of the Overlords and fight alongside the Mechs, but the Skitters do not necessarily control the Mechs. Also, if you notice, in season 2 Epi#5 about 5 mins into, in the aftermath of the rebel skitter fight, where they find Rick,
