About This Content

One of Germany’s oldest railway lines comes to life in the beautiful and picturesque Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen route for Train Simulator.

Set in the southern part of the German state of Bavaria, the 100km (62 mile) route is mainly single track throughout and runs from the country’s expansive capital city to the mountainous resorts of Bavaria, on the border with Austria. The first section of the line from Munich to Pasing, and on to Planegg, was opened on 21 May 1854, and throughout the same year further work continued to extend the railway to Gauting, Mühlthal and Starnberg.

Over subsequent years, more sections of the route were independently built to service local industries in and around the towns of Weilheim, Tutzing, Murnau and Partenkirchen; these sections were upgraded and merged in the early 1900s, and on 20 February 1925, an electric hauled train completed the first full run from Munich Main Station to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Munich S-Bahn Line S6 services serve the route, running south from Munich to Tutzing, where they terminate. Additionally, Intercity-Express (ICE) trains can be seen on the line, running from Munich to Innsbruck.

The Regionalbahn BR 426 is a popular train-set on the S6 Line, a train-set that is included with this route. Built by a consortium of Siemens, Bombardier and DWA, the BR 426 is almost identical to the BR 425, bar the BR 426 being a two-car unit rather than a four-car unit. The high powered, lightweight vehicles were designed for short to medium distance services, making them ideal units for the S6 Line. Features of the model include SIFA, PZB and LZB in-cab signalling and driver safety devices, in-cab indicators, cab controls and cab lighting.

The Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen route is highly detailed and feature-rich, and incorporates night lighting, therefore will benefit from a higher PC specification than other Train Simulator add-ons.

Ok the locations are breathtaking in this DLC but a lot of bugs. The speed markers are not defined properly and you won't even know when to loose speed or gain speed to match the specified speed. You cannot get good career XP by this DLC but it's good for fun.. Nice scenery and landscapes, nice signalling. You can also drive ICE scenarios if you have the ICE add-on.

The ring sounds at the level crossings are really terribly bad.

There are 2 drawbacks, which appear only with the ICE scenarios:

- signalling is not fully correct, braking distance is not always long enough after a warning signal. So you have to redo the scenario, anticipating the signal to begin braking, which really kills the mood.
- the schedule is such that you have to drive at full line speed all the time, no leeway. This is boring and not realistic.
. A very nice route that starts extremely busy, but changes to single track later on.. ♥♥♥♥ Dovetail Games. They took my money for Flight Sim World and just canceled it. How do you know the won't do the same to this game. DO NOT TRUST DTG. Never buying another product from this company again.. I don't own many DLC's, but I like this one, especially the route. It's really a mindblowing piece of track. It does have some minor issues, the distance snow textures are quite blurry and the route isn't easy for every pc. The BR 426 is also not a light-weight, but the cab an the passview are really dissapointing. The cab is fully done with photo-textures, that doesn't look too good. The passview has also some photo-textures and low-quality textures. So, if you're interested in some beauty, don't look inside this train.
While my pc does almost every train on every route I have (that aren't a lot, but compare to routes like Hamburg - Hannover or the Woodheadroute) with a decent framerate, my pc doesn't score too good with this one.
Finally, the acts are well done, but a little bit tight. I can't get to every station in time, but I guess this are real-life timetables.
After all, I'd give this package a 8.5/10 (with not too much knowledge). A good scenic route with single track operation for most of its length.
The included DB EMU is nice to drive and has a few scenarios for the route.

The only drawback I find is some of the speed limit markers are not in the correct places.. I don't own many DLC's, but I like this one, especially the route.
