About This Game

Fury Unleashed (*previously called The Badass Hero) is a rogue-lite action-platformer, where you play through pages of a comic book. Experience fast-paced hit-and-run gameplay. And never do the same thing twice, thanks to procedurally generated levels and random items. All in highly refined, modern, hi-res 2D art.

Somehow chaos has entered the comic book multiverse and your whole world has gone nuts. That’s how your story starts: You’re from a long-gone era, and were once a great hero, but now things have gotten worse – your powers have been lost! Your quest is simple, yet deadly – you need to write your story anew and relive your greatest accomplishments. Order will be restored when and only when you prove you are the true hero.

Your guns are your best friends, and ink is the new gold – collect it from defeated enemies to upgrade your hero. The more dynamic and forceful your play style, the greater the rewards! There’s a cost though – stay focused at all times, or you’ll die sooner than you think.

MAIN FEATURES:

  • Comic book setting – dive into comic book reality with Metal Slug inspired visuals.
  • Action platforming with 360° shooting – jump, dash, shoot, slash and blow things up!
  • Procedurally generated levels – you’ll never know what waits for you around the corner.
  • Customizable character – take advantage of Steam Workshop and make the hero your own.
  • Permadeath with character progression – you’ll keep the collected ink even if you die.
  • Three unique comic stories to playthrough:
    - Face the awakening Evil God in "Quetzalcoatl’s Awakening",
    - Defeat the Nazis in "Operation Crimson Dusk",
    - Defend the Earth from alien invasion in "The Last Stand of Earth".
  • Lots of game-changing items and weapons – wreak havoc on your enemies with shotguns, machine guns, rocket launchers and other firearms. Don’t forget about defense too – choose the best armor possible!

Excellent game with amazing gameplay.

Everything is so fluid, the traversal in this game is fantastic and the versitality that the player has is wonderful.

Each room is modeled after a panel for a comic, but the comic aesthetic it's just that, an aesthetic, a particular art style of sorts, and I like it to remain that way because it doesn't get in the way of the actual game but instead helps it by complementing it.

Then there's the beautiful and incredibly unique art style, I feel as if this is what puts a lot of people off because its different, not because its bad, I feel as if sometimes a lot of people might feel afraid by what they might not be familiar with, so if we're talking about an indie rogue-like without pixel art, then this is something that stands out a lot.

But as I said it is a shame because the aesthetic is beautiful, its one of the things that I enjoy the most about the game.

At first the only thing that truly bothered me about it was the actual face of my character, I just didn't liked him.

But thankfully you can customize your characters color of skin, and face, you can add different masks that you unlock as you play along, plus you can also make use of the workshop, or even do what I did and add unique masks, and\/or helmets from your favorite games.

The gameplay it's really where is at as it usually happens with video games, and thankfully the combat system of the game is fantastic, as it is the rogue like progression.

I don't really comprehend the complaints towards the difficulty of the game, maybe they aren't contemporary because the game as of the time that I'm writing this review includes, thankfully, different difficulty options, one of which is "easy" and lowers the difficulty of the game significantly.

It does this artificially by reducing the enemies health, and making the player take less damage.

But suprisingly and once again, thankfully, the game also gives you the ability to customize this level of difficulty in case you want to make it harder, or easier.

I'd like to really applaud the developers for giving this option, and for implementing it in such a way that the overall experience doesn't get affected in any negative way.

This is really what has made this title one of my favorite rogue-likes right next to something like The Binding of Isaac.
I specially enjoy how fast-paced, "cartoony" and gory the combat is.

You can throw grenades, use an equipped melee weapon, and of course your main weapon is a gun, something that fires bullets.

At the start you don't have much but naturally this being a rogue like, it has wonderful progression throughout the different levels, which eventually you'll find are filled with enemies, traps, and even mini bosses.

See what I enjoy the most is the so called "flow" of the game, everything keeps the player going and not once did I felt constrained by anything that was happenning around me.

I can even go as far as to say that I enjoyed this gameplay even more than something such as Dead Cells.

The movement and flow of the combat systems, and the way that both of this systems work together is very satisfying, you can also find upgrades for your armor that change the aspect of your character for the current run.

It is a wonderful game so far for what it offers and at the price that it offers it, I really wish the devs don't abandon this game, so far it doesn't seem like anything like that will happen but I really hope it never comes to something like that I wish for the game to become fairly popular to have more modding capabilites, perhaps even get the tools to create our own comics (levels) and allow for greater experiences than the already fantastic one that I had, and hope, other people will have.
. I don't like Rogue-like's. The exception being Spelunky. Watching the videos of gameplay, this looked like Spelunky but with guns. I bought it on this basis and....IT IS just like Spelunky with guns!!

I can't really recommend this game enough if you like, or like me, don't even like this genre!! It's very arcadey, but with the proc-gen randomness that makes some runs easier than others.

You are rewarded for playing fast and consistent due to the "Fury" element. Chaining kills together before the combo timer runs out grants attack and defence bonuses, so it's actually beneficial to be a gung-ho most of the time. This is of course more fun than constantly being tentative!

The game is still in development and the devs says that it would take about 12 hours to complete in its current state. I've played 16 hours so far and only just starting on the last level. Maybe I suck!! Having fun though!!!. I see you guys are still in early access. I just wanted to leave a short "review" saying... SUPPORT THIS GAME! People, if you like Rogue Legacy, think of this as the cousin to it... only with guns. And in comic form. It has so much to give already, and they keep adding more. I stopped playing a few months back after I basically had most things unlocked. I'm excited to give it a fresh go, to see what changed.

Devs... keep your spirits up, and keep on making quality stuff. The fans will wait. Your work will stand for itself, so don't feel pressured to rush anything.
